First things first, this game isn't dead.

Well, progress is pretty good. There will be art posted in the foreseeable future. I intend to continue to update the word count in the title, so if you happen to pay attention, you'll know there's activity, even it I haven't created a new post.

Not much to see here... BUT I HIT MY WORD GOAL FOR THE MONTH!!!
Ah, and the thread still isn't dead. Things are going pretty good, in terms of progress. All the updates are on the blog if anyone's interested. Art will be revealed... on a later date. Maybe a month or two...

I guess I'll see if I can hit my next word goal...

Eternal Memories is changed to be an otome, effective immediately, and today being April 1st has nothing to do with that.

Well... it doesn't look like I'm going to meet that last word goal. Some IRL stuff came up, but it was pretty cool stuff, so I'm not sure that I'm upset. All the characters are designed to a certain point now, so that stage is almost done with all the characters. Still a bit off from showing the character art though.

The big news is that I finished the last path split. After a bit more writing and cleaning, the paths will all be on separate .rpy files. Gah, feeling exhausted right now... It's sad that a little over 2000 words will do that to me...

Yeah, writing is hard. So, what's your estimate for the whole script? 200k? 300k? How about giving us some juicy snippets?

I'm looking forward to seeing this complete. Drop me a line when you need a hand with more complex GUI or animations.

I think the boy said he was going for 500k, at least so he said in his old Ideas thread.
redeyesblackpanda wrote:It's not done yet, I expect to have at least 100,000 words (probably 500,000) by the time I'm done, so it's going to be a long project.
So while he has a legion of artists at his command, there's just one single writer. I have no idea if he'll look for co-writers, but I'm sure as hell not going to proofread all those paths... Naomi is the best of his 2D girls because I said so.

I can handle it. I just needed a little sleep to be able to write again. and I like complaining. I'm sure that I'll be able to build up some stamina and write more when I have open days this summer. Actually, after an hour and a glass of milk, I felt in writing condition again (but then I went to sleep, because it was almost 2am). It seems like 2k might be my limit right now for one nonstop session.

I'm not looking for or interested in cowriters. I expected this to be a long project from the beginning. I've found out that there's more text that I'll be able to share between paths than I initially thought, so it's probably going to be in the 200,000-300,000 range (we'll see, it might still be more, since I'm not all that good at estimating things  )
Regardless what the word count ends up being, I'm just happy that I'm keeping up with the artists right now.

As for juicy snippets... Maybe once I do some serious proofreading of the beginning. I've got high hopes for the next couple months.

Good luck with writing that much. :D
I'd probably lose motivation if I started out with the knowledge that I'll have to write that many words...not that I don't like writing, it's just so demotivating. So that's why I never plan anything and just jump in. Keeps me from going batshit insane.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this. Anything that's not an otome gets my approval by now. ;)

Same here.
Thanks. I'm lucky, because I enjoy writing it it just drains my brain. I've found writing to visual novels to be more enjoyable than playing them, which might make me a little strange...

Well, I'll call this a milestone.
I've broken 50k. I guess the next one is 100k. Let's do this!

For kicks To commemorate this achievement (actually, I was just inspired by CheeryMoya's blog post) I've started a thread in our forums, where you can talk to the characters.

In other news... art is still a while off.

Two questions for Isamu: 1) do you have a special someone? 2) Are you looking for a relationship at this time?

Isamu: Eh... no...
Kiyomi: Hahaha, what he means is that it's a spoiler. He's heads over heals over
Yamanami-chan
Isn't that right Kimura-kun?
Isamu: I-inoue-chan!
Kiyomi: You should really be more honest to yourself.
Sabuko: Hey, why're we even answering this? It's not posted in the questions thread.
Me: Well... because he's a cool guy?
Sabuko: I despise people like you, redeyesblackpanda...

I have to say I agree with Samu-kun in regard to your use of Japanese words and phrases. While I understand you do so as a means to convey a Japanese 'feel' in the language, in general, as far as professional writing goes, littering too much of a foreign language, especially Japanese, in English prose is considered to be in poor taste. Especially if said words have direct English equivalents. Honorifics are a borderline case, however. In most case, I have been told that the golden rule is "If it has an English equivalent, use it."

I'm sorry I can't provide any further suggestion even though I wish to. This is a problem I find myself facing - how to create an 'ethnic' feel in the prose without overdoing it (except that in my case, it's Turkish and Arabic instead of Japanese, but you get my point). Perhaps a good compromise is to try to keep a per-sentence quota for Japanese phrase, along the lines of 'no more than two honorifics per sentence, more only if there are multiple speakers, and no more than one Japanese word that has an English equivalent in one paragraph?"

Hope this helps.
