The Romance of Miss Boop [Dating]

#1 Post by Starshine »

The Romance of Miss Boop is a Fan-Made visual, where you interact with the anthro-opposite sex. The game features big headed characters that will Boop till the break of dawn. This game was my first experience with Ren'py and all i can say is that the creator Tom is a very smart person, you can bring characters and storys to life and anything you desire. (Although the game was given terrible reviews, keep in mind i'm a one person show, no writers, no artists & so on so i just went with the flow, the games based on the 1920's-1930's-1940's to present day 2012-2013)

You wrote the word "anamorphic" several times. I believe that you meant to write "anthropomorphic," a term which is used to refer to non-human characters that are given human traits.

It sounds like you're writing a harem story with a retro cartoon aesthetic. That's certainly a unique take on harem fiction. But do you need to use a licensed character?

Oh, i'm so silly i should have used a spell checker before writing all of this out. I was in such a rush. I'm so glad you think this is a unique take on the retro cartoon aesthetic, that's just what i was going for. flappers, vamps, show buisness from 1920's/1930's/1940's all mixed into a fantasy world (trying to impersonate the Anime eyes, in a western style). I agree, mabey i shouldn't have used a licensed character, and i should have used creativity instead to make my own character. I'm a major fan of the original Betty Boop, when she was a dog-like-thing, and i thought, there isn't much about her original form?, so i'll make a game about her. I've seen many anime fan-made games, and i thought to myself mabey i'll create a Ren'py game based on a western character, who influnced anime. Thank you for your comment. :D

Yeah, I'm surprised more wasn't said about her boyfriend still being a dog after she was explicitly made human. Did you know that Betty Boop was created especially to be Bimbo the Dog's girlfriend, and because he was a dog, the first version of her was made "dog-like". Betty Boop became human when Fleischer and Grim Natwick decided she was sexier that way.
'Which would you rather have as your girlfriend? A girl? Or a dog?' Dave [Fleischer] laughed and agreed that the pretty girl was the right choice.
Your game sounds interesting, but the character designs terrify me. They are certainly unique though . . . .

Agreed here, but then again, I always thought Betty Boop herself was creepy.

I do like the fact that instead of just another dating game with your run-of-the-mill anime-influenced artwork, you're drawing inspiration from a Western source. That is pretty cool and something I would like to see more of around here, just for the sake of variety. (Hey, while we're on the topic of old cartoons, where all my furries at? There needs to be a game featuring Volk/Wolf from Nu Pogodi, STAT!)

by reminding him of the courage and honor and hope and pride

Yes Latewhiterabbit i agree, the character's do look scary-ish with those enormous heads i would def class my art as unique, with bad anatomy thats why i stick too cartoons, i kinda wanted them to all look simuler to Betty but in my own style. Yeah Betty's boyfiend Bimbo actually stayed her boyfriend, until 1933 when he was removed. Thats some good trivia, i remember that off by heart. Grim Natwick was an amazing atist, who could draw female characters, He was the first person to create Betty Boop, but is classed as the first person to draw her. he was even asked to help animate Snow White. Your icon seem's to be Disney's Alice in wonderland, so you must love disney, here's a little info:
Snow White, was originally to have looked like Betty, she was actually styled on her, but they ditched the old styled look and went for the better style, which everyone now loves.
Image
It was so hard for me to find a proper design for the characters, i even tried to go for the japanese school girl look:
Image
Speaking of Bimbo, he's also makes a cameo in the game along with Billy Boop betty's younger brother, although he needs drawing again, i dont think he looks good:
Image
Well depending on the actions of the player, you can end up married, and have children with some of the girls. You get to choose a boy or a girl, guess i was thinking about harvest moon. Thank you for your comment. :D

I agee Sapphi, Betty Boop is very surreal and always flashed in her old cartoons (That's how she got populer), until the hays code kicked in and stopped all her flashing, her garter was even hidden so people couldn't see it. I too would love to see more of these old cartoons in novel games. I guess this novel would be classed as a furry one. I was thinking about furrys when i drew the characters, becuse none of them are human, and in all of Max Fleischer's old cartoons everything is animal-like, kinda like disney. But the fleischer's were not as populer as disney, they could have been. Thank you for your comment. :D

Oh my god it IS that Miss Boop.

This idea is terrifying and brilliant and I'll be watching it closely. More games need to come out with Western aesthetics.
She's sun and rain: She's fire and ice. A little crazy, but it's nice.
Bliss Stage: Love is your weapon! A sci-fi visual novel about child soldiers coming of age. Kickstarter prerelease here. WIP thread here. Original tabletop game by Ben Lehman here. Tumblr here.

That is also the same style that inspired the large eyes in anime. And yeah, I guess Betty Boop is pretty creepy looking on her own . . .

And I like Disney, but my avatar icon is more because I love Alice in Wonderland. I probably own three dozen different versions of the book!
