Fleeting [GxG] [Romance/Comedy] (changed title)

Some of you might remember that this project was posted in the WIP thread about half a year ago or so. It's my first VN (not my first VN project, just the first one I feel like I'll finish) and I had some progress to show....until my PC crashed and everything was lost. And now that I have a new computer and laid my old one to rest in a morbid ritual involving bath water, I have started anew. Because dammit, I want to finish at least one Visual Novel before I'm old and rickety.
So here we go again, with fewer characters and updated art. Because I couldn't look at the old sprites anymore. (But as of now, only Annika has been redrawn. The others will follow sooner or later.)

UPDATE:
Mami's sprite is finished!
Also, I finally found a title for the project that I'm willing to keep. From now on, it shall be known as "Fleeting".
______________________________

Where am I?
A curious sound reaches my ears, something like a chuckle. Maybe even giggling.
"Nowhere. Not yet."
The black shadow that appears before me seems to fit the distorted, but decidedly female voice no more than it is suited to walk in a world made of light.
With a sudden start, I realize that I possess no mouth with which to answer.
As if hearing my thoughts, another amused sound escapes the still creature, no perceptible movement betraying it's action.
"You will understand. Soon."

Story

For most of your life, you never stayed at one place for long. With your parents working to develop their career, you never had a chance to settle down or build significant relationships, but that is about to change. When your parents decide to travel around the world, where does that leave you?
With nowhere else to go, you return to your brother...and your home town. A lot has changed.
Will you be able to find your place in the world and someone to give your heart to?
Or will you continue to stumble through life with no place to truly call your home?

(This ia a rather character-driven VN, so the plot will revolve around the character you choose to romance.)

Characters

Main Character

Image

"That's because she obviously loves me more than you, old man."
------------------------
"I found you."

Cam is the MC and the character you will be playing. She has a very social personality, due to moving a lot and constantly meeting new people. She can also be quite an airhead at times. Although she is usually the opposite from being aggressive or angry, she'll go ballistic if you hurt her loved ones. Cameron adores her big brother David, who she has always looked up to.

Obtainable characters

Image

"Your brother is an idiot. Let's make out in front of him!"
------------------------
"There's nothing I can do to change this. It's always been you."

Mami is Cameron's oldest and dearest friend, apart from David. Although she was born in Japan, she's been living with her family in the US since she was three years old. Energetic and sociable, Mami doesn't shy away from challenges or changes. While she's usually full of confidence, she's not always honest about her feelings and tends to bottle them up and ignore them. She is engaged with Cameron's brother David, who she has been dating for two years.

Image

"Oh, what a splendid specimen! Say, would you mind acting as my test subject?"
-------------------------
"There are some things science can't fix, but I'll do my best to make sure that changes."

Leanora is, with one word, a geek. She loves science and barely talks about anything else. Although she is exceptionally intelligent, her grades are horrible as she tends to get lost in whatever she is experimenting with at the moment and completly forgets reality. She doesn't seem to be very popular at school.

Image

"Shut up and feed me, slave."
----------------
"This is not about whether I lo...- whether I like you. This is about whether I'm any good for you."

Annika teaches Literature and German at Cameron's new High School. She is very strict when it comes to her pupils' studies and her threats are far from empty. She is beautiful, but does not seem to have a boyfriend and is therefore very popular with the male students, despite (or maybe because of) her cold and stern attitude. What nobody knows is that she has an entirely different side to her that none of her students ever see.

Others

Image

"Get over here and give me a hug, kiddo!"
----------------------
"All I've ever wanted was for you to be happy."

David is Cameron's brother and Mami's fiancèe. He's pretty laidback and charming, which makes him very popular with the ladies, as well as with the kids at elementary school where he teaches. He loves Cameron just as much as she loves him and the two of them used to be inseperable until their parents moved away and took Cameron with them, while David stayed behind to live with their now deceased grandmother.

Staff:

Forever alone.

______________________________

Progress:

Story: ~30% (I roughly know what each route is going to contain...and the rest just kinda comes when I'm writing, I guess.)
Writing: ~5000 words (Not making much progress there)
Sprites: ~60% (Old sprites need to be redrawn)
CGs: 0% (I don't even know what kind of CGs I'll need yet...)
Backgrounds: 0% (Ah yes, backgrounds...and so we meet again, my dearest enemy!)
Music: 0% (God, that's so far down my list of priorities I can't even see it anymore.)

So, basically, I erased Mami's sister Yoko from existence. Not that I don't love her, but I'm pretty sure I got my hands full with three romanceable characters. *sniff* Bye-bye, my shy introvert. Only the good die young.
On another note, am I the only one who wonders how the heck my drawing style could have changed so much in half a year? And I'm not even sure it's for the better. O.o

Also, can you tell I'm trying to fight back the abundance of otome games we get here? There's just not enough estrogen in these games.
But don't worry, even if you're a straight female who does not care for ladies loving other ladies I'll try to make it enjoyable even for you. Considering my writing tends to be on the humorous side, even when I don't want it to...just don't knock it till ya tried it.

A yuri VN that isn't aimed at 14 year old boys?!
I'm IN.

Leanora is my favourite so far.

(I'm very excited about this, in case you didn't notice)

What the... The first time I saw this, I almost swore this was a gender flipped version of Homeward. W-why I oughta sue for copyright infringement!

I'm just kidding... ;) Uhh, almost shocking similarities aside, I don't think is a case of copying, so I'm willing to just say it's bizarre coincidence our plot premises are nearly identical with only a change in the protagonist and the sibling's genders. And I suppose the childhood friend is a common enough main heroine, so uh, I guess it's just a long string of coincidences. And uhh... I guess the fact that our titles share the same word can be written off as a coincidence too.

I'm kind of stunned silent by the massive coincidences here, but I don't have any hard feelings against you. Well, uh, I guess all I can say is that I'm looking forward to seeing your take on what home means to you!

*GASP* Dammit, you noticed!

Nah, don't sue me yet. I started this project before I ever saw the thread about Homeward, I swear! And the plot doesn't actually matter all that much, since everything's gonna be about the characters. Childhood friend IS a very common character type and the only reason I created her is because I wanted that love triangle with David.

Really, the main character coming back to his/her home town after years of absence is a rather common plot anyway. 80% of the japanese VNs do that.
And don't worry, I think that's where the similiarities end. Unless I somehow managed to recreate your game without ever playing it.

It's a shame you lost everything on your old pc. At least you haven't given up on your project. :D I can already tell I'm gonna love Leanora. I'm guessing you've also cut out the '?' character from the story as well? She looked like she was going to be interesting as well.

"?" was never that big a part of the story. She was just there to give Cam the necessary infos concerning the LIs. Maybe she'll appear and maybe she won't, we'll see. ;)

Yay, the game where we can steal our brother's fiance - I mean, um..."talk" to her as just a friend - is back! And our teacher. We can work with her afterschool on an "extra credit" assignment. Taboo after taboo. XD Glad you're working on it again. I'm going to miss Yoko, but it's for the best she's not here anymore. Good luck. *waves "you go, bellice flag"*

Nah, it's totally okay. I wanted him to be hot, just to make it harder on the players when they have to steal his beloved girlfriend away from him. I'm evil like that.

So do I...D:
And I totally miss her. Maybe I can add her as a kind of secret route...? No, not more work than necessary! I'll never finish this otherwise. Must...resist...>.<

Mami's sprite is done! Yay!
I tried out a new colouring technique for hair and I am absolutely in love with it. It just looks so much better than it usually does! And with her outfit changed as well, I'm pretty satisfied with the outcome...at least for the moment. Might be the sleep deprivation, though.
