Oooh, I've always wanted to do a survival game with a female protagonist! xD You look like your well on your way, so keep up the good work! The speech bubble textbox is pretty neat (are you going to switch the orientation when different people are speaking?) and I like the character designs/outfits (Crowe looks the coolest to me so far, though I guess he should if he's an idol singer. And that one little girl is soooo suspicious).

As for the romance aspect, I think that will be an interesting challenge to incorporate. I expect it will devolve into lots of manipulation, backstabbing, and not knowing who to trust, which will make for great fun. <--is clearly a terrible person

As for the concerns about staying original from Death Rule, I feel compelled to point out that Death Rule itself (from what I can tell) is heavily based on the H-game Secret Game - Killer Queen-, even to the point of using the same game mechanic. The fact that the setup is the same, however, doesn't mean the characters and plot can't diverge significantly. The "survival game" genre has actually gotten quite large, even though the basic premises are often similar, and I think there's still plenty of room to grow. But yeah, if you're interested in the genre and want to see how how your game fits in, here are some more examples:

Just tried downloading the DR demo...
It ate up my bandwidth like a starved elephant, and it still had 50 minutes left to download. D:
So I didn't end up downloading it in fear for my internet usage. ><

I'll have to research other materials instead then to make sure I don't completely copy them, and I'll get my friend to download DR for me and send it to me so I can check that out as well. ><;

Yes there will be different orientations depending on where the character that's speaking is placed.
There will also be a different speech bubble for stuff like whispering and yelling.
Thank goodness Crowe seems to look cooler. xD

So progress has been rather slow and there isn't really much to show from it.
