Hi! Was browsing through WIP threads and came by, you have some nice art going on, but the latest screen caps irked me enough for a comment-- the way the options box and stats box obscure the character's face feels plain wrong. The stats box(screenshot0002) might be forgivable but the options in screenshot0003 is really not good :c

It might be because you're in early development stage, but if you could, place the option bars such that they don't conflict with the character sprite. It's pretty, so don't hide it! Here's my suggestions for placement, I believe design is very important with interfaces so I hope you mind them.

Also to note, that unless the BG will play a really heavy part in the player's experience(or that the character is quite short), I suggest you resize the height of the character sprite to about 4/5 height of the screen. It's a matter of balancing the elements in a screen.. but hey, it's totally up to your discretion ;D
Good luck, can't wait to see more development!

For the inventory screen, I've giving Cakes (and other certain foods) levels based on ingredients (Great Short Cake, Good Short Cake, Short Cake) but does pies need levels too? I know that riceballs don't and pudding does not but I'm not sure about pie. Something about things like cake (and sushi and other stuff) makes it seem more important to have levels (mmmm....Cake....)

I've always loved farming games ever since I played Harvest Moon 64 as a kid.
Something about it is so tranquil and relaxing.

I'll definitely be watching for this and I can't wait for the demo!
I wish you the best of success with this briannavon!

Question

Does fighting need to be in the first demo (only small fighting like bees and crabs)?

Yeah (plus it gives me a break from coding the inventory screen which is so boring and not nearly as fun as coding fighting can be!).

Do to certain reasons, I'm getting a new character artist. I hope you like the new art! I'll put it up as soon as I have it. Until then , more coding!
