Gender Bender DNA Twister Extreme

#1 Post by Zet »

Gender Bender DNA Twister Extreme is a TG visual novel, focusing on 13 characters who suddenly have to adapt to a life as the opposite gender. It features lots of ridiculous transformations and 13 playable characters, each with different endings to unlock. Some characters have male love interests, others have female love interests and some even have both! Each character reacts to being transformed differently, so each playthrough will be different.

Gender Bender DNA Twister Extreme is available for purchase via alphafunding on Desura. The first five characters are complete and the other eight will be released as they are developed. You can grab the game here, and there's also a free demo available too: http://www.desura.com/games/gender-bend ... er-extreme

We're now live on Steam Greenlight! We're slowly climbing the ranks but we need a lot more votes if we're going to be greenlit. If we get on Steam, we'll send a key to everyone who backed the game or bought it on Desura, which you can use for yourself or give to a friend.

I took a moment to look at the information on your Indiegogo page. Here's a few questions for when you have time:

1. Emphasis on story, gameplay, both, or neither? In other words, do you want fans to approach your VN expecting to read, or to play a complex game?

2. Assuming you're not creating a simulation or adventure game, please tell us more about your story. Will it be relatively long or short? Just a few choices, or quite a few? Will your characters' paths intersect or merge?

3. You stated "This game contains mature themes and a bit of nudity but is not pornographic." If it received a video game rating from the ESRB, or a Canadian movie rating, what would it be?

4. You mentioned a webcomic called Sparkling Generation Valkyrie Yuuki. (Unfortunately, everything I know about it is secondhand information...) Was it one of your inspirations?

5. How long will the guys have women's bodies? According to the First Law of Gender Bending (yeah, that's a TVTropes reference...), male-to-female gender benders do not typically go back to their original bodies. Obviously, you can defy this trend if you want.

6. Will the characters be starting or maintaining any relationships?
I saw there's already a thread about this VN on the JAST USA forum. I was expecting quite a bit of negativity there, but I didn't see any cynical or dismissive comments.

1 - Emphasis on story. There isn't really any gameplay, but there are going to be choices. However, there's 7 playable characters you can choose from, and each of their stories intertwine, so you'll be able to see events from two different perspectives. And we're not cheating and copying the scenes either, we're rewriting them to show different internal dialogue in each shared conversation.

2 - The game isn't going to be hugely long. The length is going to depend on whether we hit any stretch goals or not, but the game takes place over a week, although some routes are longer and continue for longer. All up, the game will be several hours long, and there's going to be a lot of content and replay value, but I wouldn't be able to put a number figure on the game length yet.

3 - I wouldn't be able to say for certain, but I expect it would receive a M15+ here in Australia, or an 18A rating in Canada. It has adult themes, but not any more or less that what you would see in a romance flick at the cinema.

4 - Yeah, SGVY was one of my inspirations back when I started writing. I ended up becoming friends with the author and she agreed to let us have some cameo appearances in the game.

5 - I'm going to post a spoiler, and say the game follows the first law of gender bending for the most part. That being said, they don't all stick with their original forms, several of the routes feature multiple transformations after the initial gender bending. There's going to be a lot of character sprites.

6 - Yes. There's 7 characters, and of these 5 have love interests, both male and female. And the focus on romance is different in each, it's not a carbon copy story with the characters swapped out. We tried really hard to make each of the characters unique and distinct from one another.

I was expecting a lot more negativity from this fundraiser, but aside from three dismissive/negative comments, almost every single response has been positive. It's been awesome, and we're definitely going to hit at least one stretch goal at this rate.

Thanks for the questions! It was fun to answer them. If you have any more questions, feel more than free to ask :)

Thanks for replying. After browsing Indiegogo this morning, I was surprised to see that your game has passed its funding goal. Congratulations.

Is there a reason for using the term Transgender instead of Gender/sexswap? Is one of the protagonists a girl who becomes cis due to the incident?

The alpha release date (August 13 2013) snuck up on me. I'm glad to see that writing and development are making quite a bit of progress. Especially since it was such a success on Indiegogo.

I have looked at Desura a couple times, but I haven't purchased anything there. As far as I can tell, the site requires its users to create an account and download an application. Does this mean that a user needs to log on (and stay online?) in order to play Desura games?

No, but you need to log on to download updates. Desura has an offline mode but you can also download the standalone file and run it without Desura, you'll just need to re-download the file as each new character is released. And I believe that system is in place for all Desura games.

The game's now been released and lots of people seem to like it, reviews so far have been fantastic. If you do get the game I hope you enjoy it, it's been a lot of fun to work on :)

Hi all, this is an advisory for anyone who is thinking of buying the game now. Since Zet made the rounds on the internet twice now to promote it, bumping his old threads on forums whenever they hit page 2, I'm here to keep the optimism balanced. I'm just posting to let people know that the project isn't without criticism but I'm too lazy to repost them on a forum that is supposed to support creators. Instead if you're thinking of buying the game, and haven't already read the controversy or debate about finances and art direction of this project go here:
http://tgmangas.xeraweb.com/forum/in...showtopic=2116
starting from Febuary.

Most complaints are about the art direction or the finances - after raising 27 K he's still trying to get people to sponsor his project 6 months later. Try before you buy, or at least read before you buy people.

Of course he's going to try and continue supporting his game. Just because got a home run with his funding goal doesn't mean that he should just immediately quit spreading the word around. If he continue supporting a game, it's just bad practice on a marketing and PR side.

And not only is it a bump, but an actual reply to some questions. What you are posting isn't really a criticism at all, it's just trying to spread bad PR.

Also, your link is dead since you copied it incorrectly.

My bad, here is the link:
http://tgmangas.xeraweb.com/forum/index ... 16&page=10

Well if you dig back into 2/1/13 territory on theres a lot of criticism, I just don't feel like repeating it ad-nauseum. I don't want to write more here because there is no way to advise people to do there research without it will come across as being negative. I've already debated everything that's likely to come up there.
