Personally I find the idea of ANY sort of censorship far more offensive than any form of information. At this point I want this project made because you're suggesting it shouldn't be made because it might be offensive to some people.Anne wrote:Thought so, just don't really understand why. The only thing you seem to gain is displeasure of people whose families suffered from Hitler / Stalin (doesn't seem like here are any but still)DesertFox wrote: Besides, the game I want to make is a game of Hitler.
There are also some serious advantages to Hitler over an OC. It's obviously not serious or historically accurate. In a way you're saved the trouble of HAVING to demonize Hitler because it's been done to death. It goes without saying. With some random OC dictator you loose that and either have to show the character's darkside, ruining the mood, or wind up with what could be seen as a de facto endorsement of fascism and dictatorship.
I support anyone's right of free speech but I would be hesitant to support a product that endorses fascism, on the other hand a product that makes fun of something most people take way too seriously and that the Fuhrer himself would probably have an embolism over tickles my fancy.
People who are offended hurt themselves, information does not harm. If somebody takes offense at something that is entirely upon them, not the person who they say offended them.Anne wrote:Pixel ones hurt pixel people while real ones not so muchDesertFox wrote: Every dictator's responsible for some atrocity.
I'm curious because apart from that I find the idea very interesting.
Frankly, Hitler wasn't so bad. Sure he was an evil fascist who condemned millions to death. But history is FULL of such people. Hitler merely happens to the latest example of such that we fought against. He's got nothing on many of the rulers of ancient Rome, a civilization some people actually idolize. So I take offense at the idea that Hitler is "special" and that comparing someone to Hitler is forbidden. He did not single handedly decide Nazi policy but was more of a figurehead. Hitler isn't an anomaly, an abberation or the evilest person in history, those are the lies we tell ourselves so we can pretend this could never be our societies. He's really an example of a very common archetype of person.
So before you get all bent out of shape, think how a citizen of ancient Celtia would feel about deceptions of Julius Caesar as heroic or harmless.
