[Fantasy] [VN/Puzzle] Escape from Puzzlegate [RELEASED]
SYNOPSIS
When Ken wanders into the forest out of boredom, he finds himself trapped behind a mystical door to another world. Though it appears it can be unlocked with a puzzle, the door is locked, and the 4 keys needed to open it are scattered across this strange world.
Luckily, he gains the trust of a baby sphinx, Ari, who is willing to help him locate the missing keys.
However, even with Ari's help, Ken will come to discover that getting them will not be so straightforward....
CAST
Ken
age: 10
A bright, curious young boy who finds himself trapped behind a mysterious door. Though weak physically, Ken is very clever, and tends to approach his problems like a puzzle to be solved. He is easily excited and difficult to keep down for very long.
Ari
age: 150 (approx 8 years for a sphinx)
A young sphinx who has been largely estranged from his culture. Though not as clever as Ken, he is incredibly tenacious. He tends to be lazy, but has a mischievous streak.
Topen
Mole like creatures that dig into canyon walls, looking for treasure. They are greedy by nature, but can be swayed into helping, for a price.
Boulekeet
Small birds that, while too fat to fly, are light enough to be carried away by the strong winds of the plains they live in.
Kanawa
Living balls of algae. Kanawa are incredibly laid back by nature, and spend most of their time floating at the lake bottom without a care in the world. They bubble during periods of heavy emotion.
Midoriko
Queen of the Kanawa. Though usually very friendly and content, she has recently become very concerned with the lazy image of her people. This has made her quick to anger, and easily distracted.
Golepede
Giant rock snakes with equally giant tongues. Though they appear intimidating, Golepedes are actually quite harmless, and exceedingly friendly, if not somewhat dim.
GAME STATUS
The game is in mid development. A good deal of the art assets are complete, and the soundtrack is fully complete. Most of the remaining programming is on the puzzles themselves, which is where my focus now lies.
The final game will likely be very short, about an hour or 2, but should have enough charm and diverse gameplay to make up for it.

What do I think?
What do I think?!!
The art is so freaking cute, I feel like hugging some of the characters.
That's what I think!
Fangirling weirdness aside, the premise looks good for a puzzle game and I'm excited to see how the characters would be involved in the story. The art is....
.......
.....>.<!!!
'Nuff said. I look forward to this game and its puzzles! ^^

Wow, that is some adorable art!
I'm curious though, how difficult you plan the gameplay to be. From the art style, I'd guess that it'd be on the easier side so kids can play.

Generally pretty easy. You'd be right about the art style. ^^ It is overall a very light game intended for younger audiences.Darkmoonfire wrote:Wow, that is some adorable art!

This looks like too much fun! I love the cutesy but still very high-fantasy feel of it(giant friendly snakes made of rocks? Yes please! ). The art is adorable yet so clean and professional looking and concept sounds fun too!
Good luck during production! ^_^

This sounds great. A puzzle VN always works in my book.
And as everyone else has said, the art is just too cute ^3^.

Re: [Fantasy] [VN/Puzzle] Escape from Puzzlegate
Goodness, it's sure been quiet on the update front, hasn't it? Sorry about that. I admit my attention's been divided, and while Puzzlegate is getting it's fair share, it's almost all devoted to actual development and not hype.
So here's some shots to show what I have so far.
An updated GUI! Something cute, bright and simple to reflect the game's tone. This one is split between me and a friend of mine, Meta. She also did the GUI for the main menu.
The Kanawa arc! This cute little part of the story is my personal favorite.
And finally, the overworld map. Clicking any of the landscapes will take you to their respective label, so you can do the puzzles in any order.
I've also posted some of the OST on Tumblr, all composed by the lovely Sebastien Skaf (Nicol Armarfi on LS).

Oh my gosh, the game is looking more adorable everything time I look at it. I also adore the music so far. It's very fitting; captures the game's atmosphere perfectly!
