Literal Translations - "Dream Room", "Dream House", "Dream Between"



Meng Jian is a relatively short interactive fiction visual novel made with the Renpy platform. It'll come out to somewhere between 3,000 and 5,000 words in length, and all of the art is original.

In Meng Jian, you play as a character (assumed to be a girl, but playable as a male) who awakes from a coma in a hospital to find out that they were never expected to wake up in the first place.

The main character progresses through the story with only the company of their nurse during the day and the plague of strange dreams at night.

I have not yet decided if I want there to be romantic possibilities within the novel. Since Renpy novels very normally have that objective, it's definitely a consideration that awaits potential future support.

Hmm, that's kind of an odd question to answer. Technically, Meng would generally be a female name and Jian would usually be male. However, since the title is based off of the original foreign words, it comes off as more unisex than it probably would otherwise.

The characters' aged are pretty much unmentioned in the novel, and up to the player's interpretation. Since I'm younger, I associate them as being around twenty years of age (especially since it takes two years out of high school (age 18) where I live to get a nursing certification anyway). Like I said, though, it all comes down to how old you interpret/want them to be.

Great name (that caught my interest) , but probably you would require someone who can illustrate better. All in all seems like a promising premise.

Thanks, but I'm not going to get a different artist. I like to work alone on most projects while doing full time work and university, and they're just for fun, so I don't pressure myself with perfect illustrations or anything, even though I have been working on drawing a bit.

I appreciate that, but it's just for fun. :p I'd hire an artist if it was going to be a commercial game or something. Very glad you're looking forward to it, regardless.
