Omni won't see this post I'm fairly sure but:
while I was in the dev team, he did talk several times of 'taking them down' (not that wording exactly), which seemed very odd at the time anyway.
I can't see this project being completed....
not only will it be very -very- hard to get any kind of profit out of this, but I don't see members of the team sticking round the whole time, considering how very long this is.
Not only that, but Omni is... kinda rude to the members of the dev team, and two of us have been struck off with no reason and no explanation already. And a couple of members have left already. Unless he did the same thing to them and just told us they left on their own.

I don't see how you can still call this a fangame if you're hoping for the IP rights to be given up. Frankly, that crosses the line of fangame and hoping that you can make it your property. There's apparently a lot you want to do in the future with this title, but as GreenGlassesGirl said, talk is cheap without actual content which you've barely shown progress on here. It's all been talk about CDs, artbooks, future sequels... maybe lay low a bit and actually work on this game if you're still so inclined to ?? :?

Hello! It's Omni!

To begin, I'd like to say that I've been thinking myself about many of the questions you've commented. I have definite answers to some, hypothetical answers to others, and no answers to a portion of them.

Nevertheless, I'd like to attempt to tackle these questions and comments one-by-one, especially those concerning Kickstarter and our actual progress.

1. Your antagonistic attitude towards Dischan seems suspicious and pessimistic.

GOMENASAI. I don't have anything against them. If anything, I should be thanking them since they provided the original JK to base my sequel off of. Had I not stumbled upon Juniper's Knot in the app store, it's very possible I'd never even founded the Omnicrew.

2. Dischan is starting their own animated sequel, and starting a fan sequel when the official sequel is under production is questionable.

I understand. It's also only reasonable that people would prefer an official sequel over an unvalidated fan sequel. However, if you take a look at the blog post here, https://dischan.org/devblog/2014/01/dis ... f-affairs/, they specifically say that this is a pilot episode. Also, if you take a look at the artwork, it differs greatly from what doomfest originally drew. Our development team, the Omnicrew, would like to focus on creating a more intense and fulfilling sequel bolstered by strong artists. I can assure you that our sequel will not dissapoint you--after all, we'll be eventually featuring 3 playable characters to begin with, with each character having 20+ options in their respective routes. Each route will be told from a different perspective, and you will face new challenges and uncover new secrets that a linear novel just can't provide for.

3. If you start a kickstarter for a fan sequel, it's most likely illegal. Its success is also highly in doubt.

If you read the DISCHANLICENSE here:
DISCHANLICENSE.txt
(14.25 KiB) Downloaded 70 times
On part 2(c), it says the following.

You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, except and only to the extent that such activity is expressly permitted by applicable law notwithstanding this limitation.

Fortunately or unfortunately, there is no mention of the word "derivative works" on the entire license. So as per the legal bit, I think we should be fine as long as the sequel is free, which it will definitely be.
As for the success bit... I'm hoping it will be a success. :D

4. You seem to have great ambitions, but I'm not seeing much progress here.

Great critique. I'll make sure to follow this post up with another status update.

Did I miss anything? Questions, comments or concerns? Please feel free to post your thoughts as per my Honest Critique badge!

Directly from "4.COPYRIGHT"

"All title, including but not limited to copyrights, in and to the SOFTWARE PRODUCT and any copies thereof are owned by Dischan or its suppliers. All title and intellectual property rights in and to the content which may be accessed through use of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT is the property of the respective content owner and may be protected by applicable copyright or other intellectual property laws and treaties. This EULA grants you no rights to use such content. All rights not expressly granted are reserved by Dischan."

This is referring to not just the software, but also the writings/assets of the story and characters of Juniper's Knot.

This is what will get you into trouble if you're not careful.

I'll explain this in a different way.

Say there's a song from an artist. We can say the harmony is simply the world and setting of Juniper Knot. The melody is the characters and the lyrics is just how the story is told. You can get away with harmony to an extent simply because there aren't enough chords in the world to be entirely unique. However melodic material is cutting it thin because similar but different patterns are fine, but if you start directly taking a melody from something that isn't yours, someone will know for certain.

The lyrics can be whatever they want to be, but if the harmony and melody are copies of someone else's work then someone will point it out. Bands/artists have been taken to court over things like these, it many cases it's by accident.

It's not exactly the same with what's going on here, but this is something you need to be careful about. I can not stress the importance of approval from the owner of Juniper Knot's rights. Written, signed for.

Script Sneak Peek.

#51 Post by Omniknight » Sat Jan 04, 2014 7:57 pm

Title says it all lol.

SO!
Now that the script is 33% complete, I guess it's only fair to give everyone a sneak peek of the Juniper's Knot Trilogy.

Taken from the actual script:

"Dad!"
"Lily! I missed you so much!"
"Dad, I was counting the days off to see when you'd come back home."
"Oh really? Whenever I was free I was staring into your portrait."
"You're mean, you've been away for too long."
"Forgive me, your majesty, for I have committed a most treacherous crime!"
"Dad, I'm just glad you came back safe. Really."
"Lily..."
He hugs me with his huge arms.
They're so huge that I tease it, saying he has "arms like tree trunks."
But the warmth and comfort it gives me is simply indescribable.
I'm not crying.
I'm not going to cry.
But once they start, they just wouldn't stop.
Inside his arms, I start crying out of relief.
I thought I'd never see him again...
He's such a mean person, just leaving his daughter like that.
Yes, I have my mom, but...she's is something else entirely.
After all, my mom doesn't care about what I do or how I do it.
She's nothing like my dad, so sometimes I'm stuck wondering how they came to be married.
My dad...
Those tree trunks...
I feel insecure without them.
"Lily, I have a wonderful surprise for you. I think you'll really like it."
Whenever he comes back from abroad, he brings a small gift for me.
Last time, it was a small necklace with a pink ribbon. (Does that ring a bell? http://static.zerochan.net/Juniper's.Kn ... 484292.jpg)
I wonder what kind of surprise he has in store...
"What is it?"
"Haha, close your eyes..."
"And hold out my hands, right?"
My tears long gone, there's a huge smile on my face.
I want to cherish this moment forever.
If only time would pause, just for a moment...
"Princess, please accept my humble gift."
My eyes open.
A leather pouch is sheltered within my palms.
I'm about to untie the knot, when...
"Whoa, be careful. It might fly out."
"Hmm? What's inside?"
The king takes the princess' tiny palms in his own, and opens the bag ever so gently.
"Lily seeds," he whispers.
"Are we going to plant them together?"
"Of course, darling. We'll plant so many that this entire field will be filled with yellow and purple."
"Even when I'm not here, these flowers will help ease your loneliness."
"......"
That certainly would be beautiful.
These dull fields painted in purple and yellow...
Just the thought is enough to make me smile.
I snuggle into his arms.
"Lily..."
Looking up at him, I find his gaze fixed on the setting sun.
"We many not last forever, but our beautiful memories will. These flowers will tell, generation after generation, about all the wonderful things we did together."

Script is now 40% complete. Also, I'll have little interludes talking about the fiend's past (like the illusionary world in CLANNAD.)

1. Amended primary post.
2. Amended Introductions!.pdf and the Dev Charter.
3. POLL:

In the original visual novel, the story was told from 2 perspectives (from the fiend and from the boy.) This is highly inconvenient to write and program, so our team decided to simply make 2 playable characters.

The question is, whose route do you want to see first in the demo??

I am going to work on whoever gets more votes.

Before Doomfest quit Dischan and the VN sequel to Juniper's Knot was cancelled, Doom left a mysterious picture in the CG gallery:
Junipers-Knot-2012-05-02-19-53-00-55.jpg
This artwork has, in part, been a major source of inspiration and motivation for me to continue to tell the story of the fiend and the boy.
I can assure you that all of these characters in the pictures play a pivotal role in the story, and that the actions they take and the events they face shape the fate of elves and man alike.

The question is...

Who are they?

We already established that the boy in the lower left is "the boy" and the female in the top left is "the fiend" (Yes, I do have names for them,) but who are the guys on the right side?

Anyone wanna take a guess?

And remember...
"To the victors, go the spoils."

If you are saying that those characters are from dysfunctional systes, the answer is most likely no because the image was released before Dysfunctional Systems was. Plus this was included in the CG gallery of JK.
