Acardia - City of Dreams

A warden serching for the truth. A person suffing from amnesia. What is this City of Dreams and what happend there? And what if Acardia is real and anything else just a dream?

I am writing my first visual novel. I like roleplaying games and interesting books, films etc. so I wanted to create an interesting story myself. It will not be anything near to a dating sim. Visual novels can be quite different. Its about a different reality, like matrix or inception. Everything has already happend and the nameless character is slowly remembering by talking to a warden. What is a warden? Maybe you will find out.

Its maybe not as awesome as it sounds because it's my first game. If anyone is interested I can send the code. If you have questions of advice please write.

EDIT:

The game itself is devided in two parts. An introduction where you can chose who you where, by answering different questions. Each answer will unlock other possible solution and some different storyarcs in the main game. For example a soldier will be able to fight while a senator has enough authority to go even into restricted areas. Having a wive unlocks a different storyarc than having a fogdog. The introduction also is about introducing the setting and the characters, obviously.
The main game will be about discoviering what led to the downfall of acardia and what happend exactly.

To do:
Make a list of all character aspects unlockable by the introduction. (done)
Make a list of all 9 story arcs for the aspects it the main game (50% done)
Make a short summary of the main game (integrated into the 9 story arcs)
Write the introduction (done)
Write the main game (not done)

The game will have no sprites. The music is from hartwig media and free for non comercial use. The background ask will aslo be existing free pictures. So there is no work to be done concerning this.

Update Jun 11. : There a six Aspects for the character three profesions (senator, soldier, dream merchant) and three companions (wife, fogdog, books). I thought it better to keep it small before it gets out of hand.

Update Jun 22. : The concept for the different parts of the story are half finished. There a many routes through the game it is definitely worth playing more than once or twice, at least if you want to discover more of the story.

Really pretty background. I actually like the idea. Good start for your first VN. Also, that background is very beautiful. I think you should put up more info though because this might get moved to the idea section if the administrators don't think it's enough. Hope things go well for you :)

It inspired me to the setting.

I see that most games have a to do list. I will write one even if my game is rather small compared to other projects.

Finished half of the concept for the main game and realised why many visual novels are so linear. Yes, you will be able to play the game several times and have a quite different story each time, but it will be shorter than a linear novel. My story concept is a detailed graph that sometimes leads to cetain main events.
Still have to think about how the different decisions you made will influence the outcome of the story.

Oh, cool art. :)

I'm a bit sad that there are no sprites though... haha, but that's okay. Without sprites, you can focus more on the story development. I remember one visual novel that had no music and backgrounds. It was really cute! As a reader I got super attached to the characters, because there was nothing else to distract me. Haha. I think it'll work the same for this one here. :)

Out of curiosity though, I just wanna ask, how many words do you think will this VN have? :)
Also, if by "code" you mean you already have a beta or demo of sorts, haha, I sure would love to try it out.

Anyway, goodluck on your first project! :)

Thank you Ran08, yes I think the lack of sprites will create a certain mood for this game. The story will have about 20.000 words, maybe more if can't refrain myself (and why should I^^).
I will write some more lines and will release a demo version in about two weeks to give everyone an impression of the game.

Ahhhh, hahaha, I know what you mean! For one of my projects, I told myself I would only do 20k-30k words, but not it's already 47k and it's still not yet done. -___- Hahaha. Goodluck with writing! Just write whatever you like, and don't try to keep deadlines too much when it comes to VN-making. What's important is that you're having fun! :D

Haha, alright. :) I'll be waiting for it!
