Invisible Apartment Zero [Cyberpunk][Sci-fi][conspiracy]

Update:

We've made it & we're released :D
There is now a thread in the "completed" section - http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewto ... 1&p=356622

-

http://iazero.tumblr.com/ & http://invisibleapartment.com for info relating to the whole series.

The Invisible Apartment Zero is a prequel to the original Invisible Apartment ( http://invisibleapartment.com ), which I'll be calling IA1 for the sake of simplicity. IA1 was released in June 2014 and is currently only available through iTunes, which will change in the near future (I explain that further down).

It's set in a time a few years before the events of IA1 when Kacey is still living with her parents in the suburbs. She's excited about the World which is "out there" and hates how nothing exciting ever happens where she lives. She dreams of traveling to the big city, meeting new people and seeing interesting places. But something happens that turns Kacey's World upside down. You'll find the rest in the visual novel itself.

-

The length should be around 1.5 hours, so about 3 times more than the IA1. The alternative routes are not that simple and straightforward as in IA1 where if you made a bad move it had a bad ending quite swiftly.

The release is planned for December & we're on schedule. We'll release for iPad & Windows first. (further comment about platforms further down) The porting of the IA1 has been twice restarted, so in the end other ports will come out at the same time as this release.

From the beginning I've planned the Invisible Apartment as a series. The IA1 has begun after "some events" and also ends without resolving them. This release answers how Kacey got where she was in IA1.

Soundtrack

I'm glad to announce the cooperation with Rebekka Kolbeinsdottir who's making a large part of the soundtrack. Rebekka is a well known singer from Reykjavik. Here is one of the tracks.
Then I work with a great musician from Denmark Søren Nissen Jørgensen
You can find his work at https://soundcloud.com/soimanislander

Another great pianist who's also in the soundtrack is Óscar Vázquez https://www.facebook.com/oscarvazquezmx

Regarding questions of what platforms will be supported and so on I have a short statement:
"
During the last Months I’ve received a lot of comments, input and questions. Most of the input for IA1 was along the lines of that the text needs proofreading and that the story needs to be longer. With IA0 I’m doing both - I’ve started working with people on copywriting and proofreading and the story is longer than Invisible Apartment 1. People have also been asking when and if IA will be available for other platforms. Invisible Apartment Zero will be available from the beginning for Windows and iPad. At the same time I’m planning a re-release of IA1 for Windows. Down the line there is also a plan to do a rerelease of IA1 which would see a remake of some parts of the dialogues so that it gets to the standard of the current development (that is planned for 2015).

From 2015 I’m planning to do all releases from the beginning for both mobile and Desktop.

People have also asked “why not Android, why not other, etc.”. Well I guess that the best explanation would be that it’s only a time and resources issue, nothing else. As time progresses, as I know new people, as the circle of people with whom I'm working grows so do the possibilities. The same goes for translations.
"

I'll add more information as it emerges, ok?

I have to say, your logo is very enticing! I haven't played the original Invisible Apartment just yet, but after checking out the synopsis on the site you posted I will definitely be downloading it just as soon as it becomes available for Windows! Unless I am mistaken, Ren'py actually makes it fairly easy to release versions for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

As for this game, I really like the character designs thus far! Although, I am a bit curious as to why all of the characters (in both this game and the last) seem to be wearing pretty futuristic-looking clothing, aside from Amy and Joel. Unfortunately, there isn't much more for me to comment on since you didn't go into much detail with the plot or characters, but I do wish you luck! I'm a sucker for sci-fi, and I love a good mystery.

Thanks, I'll keep everyone posted & then I'll create a new thread in "completed games" once IA0 is out (I hope that's how others do it too).

Hmm.. the difference is meant to be more in cultural background. I grew up in a town where you have a large Roma population and people wore slightly different clothes, afterwards I lived in Vienna in a "Turkish neighborhood" and people were kind of 50/50 on how they expressed their backgrounds & everyone used high-tech. This reminds me of the movie Nirvana http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119794/ - which by now is I guess a cyberpunk classic. In any case - I like to mix technology with different cultural bits and pieces / elements.

Oh, that makes sense! I'm a big fan of diversity. Normally, in movies (for example) set far in the future, EVERYONE wears crazy clothing. It makes a lot more sense for there to be cultural differences.

I've never seen Nirvana, but it sounds very interesting! I will have to look into this.

I've sat on a presentation a few Months ago where someone (I forget all names all the time) was talking about how in many sci-fi (in the shiny ones) like Star Trek it looks like people are living in a sort of socialist utopia - not using money, everyone dressed the same. But I guess in the end we'll just keep glueing new things on top of the old forever. That's closer to cyberpunk, though that takes it too much to the dirty & gore side.

These days everyone thinks that we'll either drown in a century or fly to the stars and live surrounded by solar panels & cyborgs. People in the 15th century might have had similar thoughts, just tied to their time. I haven't really seen a film recently that would portrait a World not in a catastrophic way, but really just try to create a scenario where people would still be people.

Apparently, amongst certain groups it is a commonly held belief that socialism will be the ruling system at some point in the future. A future in which all countries are united with open borders, and where poverty is eradicated because money no longer dictates people's lives, sounds like paradise to me. But, if that were ever to happen it would be FAR in the future. Human nature is hard to change.

Also, I would like to put my bid in for a world in which space travel is commonplace. Star Trek has made me disillusioned with the present, because one of my occupational choices is not Exploration Starship Crewmember. xD
It would seriously make my life if we made any sort of definite extraterrestrial contact. Even if it was just infallible evidence that there are others out there. Not that I doubt for a moment that there are...Sorry, I know I'm getting way off-topic here. Mentions of space travel and Star Trek are apparently trigger words for exposition on my starry-eyed dreams. No pun intended. Haha!

I do like seeing the many different takes on what the future might hold, though. A lot of them certainly do seem to paint it as something rather bleak, but the possibilities are limitless at this point.

You know, I guess that people are looking at expanding, traveling and surviving from a kind of selfish standpoint - a standpoint of their genes & time.

I believe that it's easier to modify an organism to live on a certain planet than to do terraforming for example. Then we're splitting humans into different branches, but why's that a problem. And that it might be easier to modify certain humans for space travel than to wait a very long time for the technology to adapt. Another thing is - why should traveling for hundreds or thousands of years be anything bad? Do the people who go to different planets need to come back? And do we need to live until they do? What's the end goal? To enrich Earth and people on Earth or to spread intelligence.
But those things require much higher values than those of four year politicians.

Time in Star Trek flows linearly - people traveling live in the same time as people on Earth, but that might be a limiting thing.

I like how Knights of Sidonia & Prometheus look at things or even Interstellar (though I don't like the fear factor of Interstellar).

In any case - I'm also planning a hardcore sci-fi. More info will come in 2015. After IA0.

This looks and sounds pretty interesting. I like the style and character designs.
Unfortunately, I'll have to wait for a Windows release myself before I can try it out, since I don't possess any of the plattforms IA1 is currently released for. Otherwise, I would've already downloaded it.

Oh well, December isn't too far off, anymore!
