Re: Barakana [BxG]
I enjoyed a variety of visual novels with boy x girl pairings from 2002 until about 2011. In the last couple years, reading Toradora Portable and Harvest December helped me to become an active fan again. Having said that...
* What has motivated you to create a visual novel which emphasizes boy x girl romance?
* Are there any specific BxG stories that you have enjoyed?
* If so, what did you find commendable about them?
* If the characters just remained friends, would that have a major impact on the story?
* If their sexes or sexualities were different, would that affect the story?
Becoming an adult does not necessarily lead to becoming stuck in one's boring home town forever. Sometimes there are more opportunities to see the world and try new things. That said... if your main character heard a statement like that, would he believe it? His response might be "I have to achieve something now."

It's good for a main character to have a sense of urgency. The person should have motivations and goals.Makudomi wrote: Staying there is something he'd always imagined doing, but as childhood passed into his life as a working adult, it began to fade into the stuff of daydreams. Maybe, he thinks, this is the last chance to make it happen, before losing himself to the working world.

Free to play is a business model. Is that what you meant? If you're planning to make money from your visual novel through F2P, that's fine... just make sure to state this clearly. If your visual novel will be freeware, then that means a person will be able to download it at no cost, and use it on any computer with no advertisements, microtransactions, in-game currency, etc.Makudomi wrote: Free to Play: YES
How much of your visual novel do you estimate will be edutainment? How much of it will emphasize story and entertainment?Makudomi wrote: Along the way, as part of the language school experience, you will be tested in your Japanese with "exams" that conform to the real-life JLPT (Japanese-Language Proficiency Test). There will be an option to take tests with the correct answers highlighted in advance, thus you do not need to understand any Japanese in order to complete the game, but differing results will affect dialogue in various parts of the story (comically or otherwise).

Re: Barakana [BxG]
Thanks for replying. I have liked a number of games and stories with boy x girl pairings. So yeah, I admit that it was rather odd that I asked why your story features BxG romance. There are a couple of embarrassing and personal reasons why I even brought this up. They're off-topic, so they're in spoiler tags.
* I have had insecurities about sympathizing with protagonists. There have been times when I have wondered, "Is this male character a blank slate that's meant for me to pretend that I am?" I have been wary about imagining that I am a protagonist of a BxG story. Even when the person is a distinct individual, such as the main characters of Kana Little Sister or Crescendo.
* I started thinking about this a few years ago, when a handful of people became rather obsessed with LovePlus. I wasn't sure what to make of the news stories about this. Not long afterwards, I noticed some of my fellow fans expressing concerns that liking *any* male demographic romance story might turn them into a delusional person. They didn't want their interest in fiction to lead to doing something embarrassing in public. I tried my best to remain confident, and told myself, "It's just a game, it doesn't have an official translation, and it's worksafe too..." Even so, I was worried.
