What is Ego Holic?
Ego Holic is a
dark BL (Boys Love/BxB) Visual Novel on the supernatural side, currently in development by qb;studios.
This game will be rated
18+ for NSFW content (warnings for language, blood, adult themes) as well as a
PG15 version (can be changed in the preferences).
In the big bustling city Elón, the rich can fulfill their dreams, the middle class is well off, and Espers hunt down illegitimate magical users on witch-hunts.
So, just like any other city.
Leonard Honeywell, a broke witch with no warrant to use magic, stumbles upon an antiquarian bookstore and becomes an employee under... weird circumstances.
Minding his own business, he tries to flee from his past and find a reason in life.
But nobody knows about the Gate that opened, or why Leonard got booted from the Academy (supposedly for killing a fellow student), or that his boss is giving out mysterious tomes for free to people who come to his bookstore.
Next to getting grey hair over this management, Leonard gets to know a lot of people - people who aren't rich. People who can't fulfill their dreams.
People who get hunted.
People who are still yearning for something.
Featuring:

unique storytelling with complex choices
map system lets you choose how to spend your break time
3 love interests (BL)
R18 and PG15 version
5 endings
15+ CGs
10+ tracks of atmospheric music (by rico chet)
available for Win/Mac/Linux
Since this project is 80% Cube's work (with 10% music and 10% writing help from other people), this project is progressing slowly, but surely.
The estimate release is Q4 2017.

More and more BL games! And especially 18+ hahahaha. I think the art has a huge appeal. They're going to stay monochrome + highlight color?
The premise is rather standard, I'm more interested in how they were going to develop. Since it's going to be 18+, I'm interested in how the mature scenes will play out. And once it comes out I'd absolutely play it lmao. It's hard to displease me and my BxB interest...

Reminds me pretty strongly of xxxHolic as a premise. What will set it apart from stories of that kind; or will it be more of an homage? Although, I'm also a sucker for BL, so I'll happily play along anyway.

@fuicchi: Yep, it's going to stay monochrome with colored elements. The BGs will be slightly animated (e.g. rain on the street BG).
@AllegroDiRossi: Oh, now that you mention it, it does! But it's not about taking things that are dear to people as payment. It's a bit more... unfair. Since I haven't fleshed out everything so far, the story will have a lot of drama, and of course, the freedom of choice - the reader will have a hard time figuring out the (only) good ending.

Yes ! The art seems very good, and the idea or monochrome with colored element is really unique
I love it
For the story : well it is a BL game, and sadly there are only a few of this kind of VN
And the story makes me curious :p
- What would you like to see from this project?
I want to know where the story goes :p ( and the +18 aspect makes me even more curious, I admit :p )
- Would you be interested in playing it?
Yes, absolutely !

Right now nothing comes to my mind, but I can't wait to play the demo ( End of july if I am correct ? )

Art, yes!! Story, it's hard to say. It seems pretty vague at this point.
But being BL and having nice art is enough for me to want to play it! |D;
(Oh, & the background looks especially cool btw~)
What would you like to see from this project?
I guess I'm curious about the story.
And I wonder if having those colors while everything else is black + white is just an aesthetic or if they have some relevance to the story.
But mostly... I am here for guys making out.... OTL;;

I wonder if the sprites in shades of grey will stand out enough against that kind of background.

@Letitia_L: End of July, yeah! I hope my composer will be finished with his pieces by then. If not, the demo will be out in early August.
@fmjaye: Those colors aren' just an asthetic, although it was chosen for the aesthetic at first x'D WE ARE ALL HERE FOR GUYS MAKNG OUT orz
I hope I can get enough contrast between sprites and background by a hard shadow.

What would you like to see from this project?
Hmmm... what would I like to see? Hmmm.... how the story goes and the interactions between the main and the other characters, how will their relationships grow and turn into love (or hate xD)
Would you be interested in playing it?
I already am pretty interested in playing it, it's a BL game with beautiful art and I want to know more about the whole story.
Any suggestions?
I really like the idea of it being black&white with some colors to contrast, please don't change it! I know you won't do it but well xD I think it's going to be prettier than if it was full of colors.

- more side characters are finished, not yet uploaded (will be soon)
- demo is being re-written
I'm still looking for helping hands! Mainly a co-writer, proofreaders, and a coder who can help me out with minor stuff like ATL and imagebuttons.

I've went all-out the last three days and re-did the characters, and also drew a group pic of the most important ones. Character bios will follow soon.
So the Update contains:
- Character Poster in the first post
- CGs
- re-drawn sprites
I'm still looking for helping hands! Mainly a co-writer, proofreaders, and a coder who can help me out with minor stuff like ATL and imagebuttons. Also I suppose I need someone who can do good PR, because I know nothing of spreading the word...

We definitely need more BL games that have a different kind of story and feel!
