Boy's Parade! [Yaoi Jam 2016] [Comedy/Drama]

#1 Post by SynisterSyrup » Mon Jun 20, 2016 4:37 pm

Boy’s Parade!

Because Yaoi Jam is right around the corner... I want in on this!
So, I've taken an old concept I came up with for a shounen-ai/comedy/slice of life KN.
I have already begun writing on the prologue and have several scenes already plotted out
for down the road. Progress will be mildly slow until summer school lets out for me,
so don't expect a lot of updates on this project at the moment.

Summary:

8th grade is coming to an end. Next year, Nick plans to drop out, Adrian is moving to Canada,
and Kyle will be attending a Christian private school. Of course, there’s Kreig, who believes he
can “save” them all. And so, in between Kreig’s outlandish schemes to fame and fortune, the group
of guys spend the last of their days creating memories, both good and bad.

Characters:
(This section is a work in progress)

Image

-Kreig-
Not the brightest of people, but his seemingly
thoughtless actions tend to be more
helpful than people give him credit for.
The heart of the group.
He's the glue that holds everyone together.

A look into the story:

The story starts off introducing a group of 4 friends, Kyle, Kreig, Nick, and Adrian. They are
about to graduate junior high and move onto high school. Although it should be a happy time
for everyone, it’s actually a topic of stress. Kyle, in a relationship with Kreig, has been keeping a
secret. He doesn’t have the heart to tell Kreig that he won’t be attending the same high school
as Kreig, and worse yet, in attempt to severe Kyle’s relationship with Kreig, his mother plans to
enroll him into a private Christian academy. When he tries to break the news to Kreig,
instead, Kyle wusses out and ends up asking, wouldn't it be nice if they all ended
up in the same class again? To which he receives some surprising answers.
Adrian will be moving to Canada during summer break and Nick will be quieting high school
to take care of his mother. It was the first time either of his friends had said
anything about it...

Script Sample:

If anyone is interested in the happenings within Boy's Parade!, check out a small sample of the script's prologue. ^3^

Theme Op??

Also, here's a WIP for the op theme to my, as of currently, non-existent game op sequence. x'D

If anyone is able to write BG music for this song, that would be amazing!
If not, I'll probably have to end up leaving it out, lol. Me no do the music thing.
If someone can, and you require payment, just let me know!

On The Search:
-BG artist
-Programmer
-Editors
-Musician
-Logo artist

If anyone is interested in these positions, please note me
some references to your work and price quotes,
if you require payment.

Note: Even if the game does not make it out in time for Yaoi Jam 2016,
I will not abandon the project. :- )

**First character portrait is up! (Although it's uncolored) I will add more portraits and profiles as I sketch them up. And eventually, I will get to coloring them on Paint Tool Sai, as well. I was thinking of finding a sprite artist at first, because this is a timed event (Yaoi Jam) but it might actually be faster if I do it myself. I am worried that I won't make the deadline if I do most of this stuff myself, but if I don't make it, I guess I can settle with simply placing a demo of the game into this year's Jam. I'm still on the search for others, though! If anyone can contribute something to the project, especially BGs, it would be a huge help.**

Hey there!
I really like your art. Kreig looks adorable- would you say you have a cartoon cross anime style?

You look like you have a solid idea down, and as a fellow entrant, I'll give you a little help.

For free backgrounds, or assets, check out the Creative Commons. Most of these are attribution licences, which require you to credit the creators, and not charge money for the game. Uncle Mugen is famous for his large collection of BGs. Some Royalty-Free music can be found on Incompetech- here.
These are all for non-commercial games. Aka- you can't use them if you charge people money for the game.
I'm more than willing to help out with coding (as much as possible between my own project)- but more than that, I'm willing to teach you through the process, if you're willing to learn.
(I'm no pro, but I can make a fairly good-looking, smooth-running VN.)

Also- there's nothing wrong with releasing a demo, or even holding out and releasing the game late! The competition is more of a challenge for yourself, to complete a game within a short period of time. Completing late, rather than not at all, is more than worthy enough of congratulations!
I am not friends with the sun.

Aw, thank you! ^3^ I don't think I've ever thought about it though, to be honest.
I guess if it looks like a fusion then it must be because I am particularly obsessed with creating a
proper nose for anime characters. I usually struggle when I draw cartoon faces from an anterior
position, since the nose always ends up looking like just a pair of nostrils and nothing more. But,
I guess that's where coloring comes in to save the day. O -:

Thank you so much for letting me know about the royalty free assets! It really never crossed my mind that
I'd be able to find free assets, lol! xD Thanks a bunch for that tip!! I already looked through the
link you sent me for the royalty free music and already I'm finding a lot of good BGM.

Thanks so much for offering your help! And if you wouldn't mind, I'd love to take you up on
that offer, if it doesn't interfere with your project. :- > I am definitely willing to learn if you
don't mind teaching me. I have some of the basics down, but when it comes to
some of the movements and changing out menus, images, music, ect., I've had a hard time
with things bugging out in the past.

Thank you for all the encouragement and help! It's very sweet to have fellow participant
help me out like this. :'- ) Perhaps I could help you out with something as well. If you need help with
anything, just let me know and I'll see what I can do.
