Happy #screenshotsaturday! I have to be honest, when I see some of the concept arts I get, I instantly think - these have to be a part of the final game...

#screenshotsaturday

Well hello there! We made a huge progress lately and I would love to share with you newest concept arts from Tales From Windy Meadow, our incoming Visual Novel.

A) One of the in-game areas, a part of the village's domesticated forest. The wilderness in our fantasy setting is a hostile space filled with threats. Because of this, even basic mushroom hunting or looking for herbs is too dangerous for anyone to make a living out of it. In result, every village tries to control a part of the forest, taking care of its plants, keeping beasts away and trying to live in symbiosis.

B) Meet Calor, our friendly village blacksmith. He doesn't like his job much, but he's good at it. Really good, actually. Because of his talent people from other villages can buy new tools from him without making a trip to the city, what makes Windy Meadow a fairly popular place.
However, we can't decide which beard do we like the most... Which one is your favorite?

This game looks beautiful.

I love the direction of the pixel art - it's detailed, but still blurry, evoking a very retro, nostalgic feeling. I really, really like it! The animation looks to really fit the themes you want to explore, too!

I especially like the fact that each character doesn't have an expression - it lends much more weight to what they are saying, and what their actions say about them.

What you have for the setting sounds fantastic so far, and I will check out The Tavern!

Regarding what VN should be, and your chosen direction of art over text, I really appreciate, because to me, the most important element of a visual novel is the visual aspect. Art, sound, direction, all that, I believe has the potential for a lot more exploration than the 'traditional' Japanese VN of a interactive story. Since there's art, why not use the art to the fullest advantage and have it reflect the themes of the story? In fact, VN have as much potential as any other game genre, and definitely should not be just limited to highschool romance and porn - in fact, it's not the best medium for porn, when it comes down to experience. Why hash something that the medium's not entirely suited for? Storytelling is the VN's strong suit, and the exploration of themes and stories. I am in full support of exploration and experimentation, and judging by what I have seen of Lemma Soft, there is a voracious community for it!

As for the character design, I personally like the second one! Or the third. Have you tried a clean-shaven blacksmith? Maybe he takes extra care to make sure his beard doesn't catch on fire! ^w^

Thank you very much, Abscission! Our graphic artists are making an amazing job and I'll do my best to support it with great storytelling. : )

However, we actually do plan to add faces to the dialogues as well. Not directly on the character sprites, but rather in separate space right above the text box. You can see an example of Nalia's face in our post from the last week, right next to her sprite.

Our blacksmith really likes "manly" attributes and he wouldn't feel comfortable with clean-shaved face, like one of these weird, rich merchants from the city! ; )

I'm not sure if I would say that visuals are THE most part of a VN, but I would definitely say that VNs are neither movies, nor books and the stories they allow to create are unique stories and they deserve to be experimented with and test new grounds. It's a separate medium and it hurts me to see how small developers try to follow big companies which are mostly very comfortable with making just one romance and / or porn game after another. I've see a lot of VN communities that made me doubt in the very point of trying to make something new and creative, and I'm happy to see there's a group of people potentially interested in this after all. : )

1) The majority of our spectators, especially from Poland, asked us to keep Calor with the longest beard possible. Just remember that we have to stay reasonable - from time to time a blacksmith has to get pretty close to fire.

2) This week we wanted to introduce you Argentia. This travelling merchant doesn't live in Windy Meadow, yet she's the most trusted trader who keeps returning to our village from Berytus city. She's a young, but already respected member of the merchant guild, who puts trust in her wit and insight. And, of course - her crossbow as well.

Happy #screenshotsaturday!

We visually updated the main heroes of Tales From Windy Meadow. Do you also think we made a right step? : )

In the following weeks we're going to introduce you these characters and share some new information about their personality and background. You can also find some additional info in our recent IndieDB devlog.

Well hello there!
Tales From Windy Meadow just landed on our website! (We’re going to change the logo, though. ; ))

It’s also a great opportunity to share with you the description of one of our three protagonists - Vena, the huntress. What do you think about her?

Whow this looks very cool! I really like the idea of those three stories running at the same time and place! It's an interesting concept! I really like the art too! It can be a lot of work with pixelart but hoo boi it is worth it!
I completely agree with the people above me! It's cool to see a VN that takes some risks! It looks very good so far and the cast is interesting too! Keep it up! I'm excited to see more!:D

The pixel art looks absolutely amazing! I like pixel art, I like this kind of game. I think developers tend to make VN with romance, porn and anime-ish art style because the genre is from japan? It makes the word "visual novel" tied to those tropes. Just like how "doujin" is associated with porn, while actually doujin means self-published works. lol sorry a little bit out of topic.
I myself need these kind of games. a lot. I need something that is not about love, or filled with moe moe kyun. And I think with the growing community of visual novel, I'm sure there are a lot of people who loves this kind of game!

I like the idea of three protagonist! I think a story with different characters as its center is more immersive. Like, the world is not centered on a single person, there are different life in it.
sooo looking forward to this. Maybe I should check The Tavern in the meantime :)

Thank you so much, RouFleur! I've noticed that you are from Indonesia, and we actually recently joined our forces with an artist guild from Bandung! I haven't shared their art yet since they're currently in the sketching phase, but it's amazing how talented people from the entire world can join to create something new and unique! Here are some examples of our pre-pixel art concept!

Another #screenshotsaturday, another time for a major update!

Through November we described three protagonists - Vena, Fabel and Iudicia - who are staring in Tales From Windy Meadow, our #pixelart fantasy Visual Novel. Now, with our new logo and some spelling fixes it's a good moment to group all the descriptions together.
logooldvsnew.png
Starting next week, we're going to focus a little bit more on the Windy Meadow itself - the area designs and the mood we're looking for. You can expect a new YouTube upload as well. The programming of the game had to be postponed, but we still hope to share with you the game's gameplay in December. : )
We hope you're going to have a fantastic weekend!
