So excited to see this - I loved Magical Diary. It looks great, and I loved the updated UI and character art (for the returning characters). And congrats about exceeding the goal!!

...I have to admit, I probably won't play this as I don't really like playing male characters. But I hope it does well! :)

This sounds like an amazing concept. I didn't play the first Magical Diary game, but this one looks good enough that I might just go back and try it. :) Best of luck!

This is so exciting! I'm really glad that you'll be revisiting some of the old characters again. I was really into Horse Hall when it came out, so I'm looking forward to this hew edition to Magical Diary. It'll be especially cool to see Damien again, he was always one of my favorite characters because of his turmulous story line.

The professors both look different, but in a good way. The new designs are nice. It makes Grabiner look more mature for sure!

About a week and a half to go now, still inching towards the next bonus side romance stretch goal!

One thing we did to promote the kickstarter was to commission a bunch of artists to draw their own versions of the characters (among other things this means I get cool art to look at)

You can see a whole bunch of these art pieces by scrolling through the magical diary twitter account as I generally retweet all of them (and a few actual fanart pieces as well)

So far along with the five main routes, we have five confirmed side options (Luke, Manuel, Pastel, Raven, and Suki) and two bonus slots to be voted on by backers in the beta.

For anyone who missed the kickstarter or couldn't pledge because they don't take paypal, it's now possible to back the game on itch.io

This will get you access to the game in development, new updates as they're released, and (eventually) a Steam key when it's all done if you want.

Lots of development updates since but as mentioned they've generally been posted to the kickstarter, the itch devlog, or to my forums.

However I thought I'd come back in to show signs of how the character creator is coming along:

Hi! This surprised me (I don't know the original) and I'm really excited for the character creator because you don't see that very often!

I am wondering though, how do you guys handle CGs with so many options? I'm curious to know!

Mostly by having very few CGs. :D

The only CGs that the PC shows up in are the kisses, and these have the characters positioned to try and keep more focus on the other partner rather than the PC. You'll still see bits of him, and those bits will match your design (skin color, hairstyle/color) but you're not seeing him in detail. So that keeps the amount of work for the artist at a bearable level, while still letting you feel like it's your character up there.

Other CGs only feature other characters and not the PC.

I don't update here often (most update logs are posted on the itch page) but speaking of CGs, we've recently been adding chibi-style CGs for some of the more light-hearted game events, similar to what was done in A Little Lily Princess.

Story-progress-wise, the patches available to people with beta access are into the last month of the story now, so the finale is approaching.

Just in time for the end of 2019 we've released beta patches through to the end of the game!

The game is not, however, finished. We still have cool stuff and two more side romances left to add. But players can reach the final dance!
