Story
netcromancer is set in a post-post-apocalyptic utopian city where little is left to fix with society except the unavoidable certainty of death. Citizens have cheated death sofaras limiting their environment to preserve their bodies, cloning to preserve their legacies, and uploading their consciousness to preserve their minds. The story begins when Ellie Mason receives with a corrupted file with one of these uploaded minds attached.
What else is to be done except to give this mind a new body and a new life.

Anyway. What I'm trying to do here is to tell a very long term story but in chapters as it is very long and I'd like a portion of it to be released this century. Also I really wanted to utilize a cyberpunkesque setting but more western inspired rather than the usual neotokyo template associated with the genre.
The game itself is a sci-fi mystery with psychological elements where you play as the aforementioned uploaded mind now an ai with no memories of who they are and where they came from.

Characters
Image
Ren
Ren is the player character and the copy and pasted consciousness of a stranger's mind placed in a doll's body. They have little to no knowledge of the present nor their own past.
Image
Ellie
Ellie is the companion character to Ren's journey. Even though Ren has been living with her for months, she is slow to share and tight lipped about her life and situation.

Anyway what I guess I'm wondering, is if there's any audience for chapter-based stories. I know one long VN is preferable but I want to try and use chapters sort of like episodes. Furthermore I don't want the mystery to be undone all at once, rather I'd like to pace it out and instead of using dialogue choices to change the outcome, but to reveal certain information in certain ways. Does that make sense? Is that a good idea?
...
It's just me on the team btw because I'm paranoid about keeping an overall diegetic style furthermore instead of standalone sprites, they will be projected into the environment. Regardless I will probably have to outsource for music. As for gui: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Either way I mostly just want to make this post to have something concrete to prove I'm working on something. Than you for your time.
(also for the love of god can someone tell me how to make a line break nothing i've tried worked)

Man, this oozes style. Definitely catches my interest.

For me personally I love stories that were originally written in an episodic format, but I'm hesitant to start reading myself until the story is complete (or at least seeing that new chapters are coming out on schedule) if only because the fear of being left hanging. That said, getting a first chapter out can make a great demo regardless, and I definitely hear you on wanting to get something real into the world.

Just remember that especially if you're writing a mystery, every chapter you publish ties your hands on choices you haven't made yet--there's no going back and editing after the fact, so make sure that you're comfortable that you won't write yourself into a corner.

I really love the visual style you are going for!
Regarding the episodic releases, I'm sure you will be fine. I honestly believe that this is the future for Visual Novels. I've definitely seen a shift towards this, but I might be biased as our VN is also episodic!

Great work on your project so far, and it really looks gorgeous!
