In a warm subtropical shallow, a newborn whale opens his eyes for the first time. Our research team is present to record the moment, and everything that will follow after.
South Scrimshaw is the story of this animal’s entire natural life, his struggles and successes in a vast ocean teeming with life.
South Scrimshaw is a faux nature documentary inspired by David Attenborough, Studio Ghibli, and maybe Kafka too. It's a linear read, but there are optional information tangents to explore that build out the larger world's lore.
This is a passion project of mine that was started in part to get better at painting, so a huge amount of effort has been sunk into the artwork. It's done in mixed media, with digital paintings composited onto watercolor and gouache backgrounds.
Edit 3/31/21 - Project is taking a break due to work obligations, but will resume later this year. The first three chapters are done and it's at least at a decent resting point.

1. I made promotional postcards
2. I will draw stuff on the back
3. If you want a postcard, email me or message me through social media.

Looking at my itch.io analytics, requiring potential readers to download a large file to see the work has been a major hurdle. Not sure how to deal with that, but this is a quick fix to get part of it readable in browser.
2. Postcards are still available to anyone who wants one.
