"Once upon a time, a lonesome recluse had their wish for a child granted by a witch... But, as is typical of witches, there was a catch. She was only capable of mycology magic, so she gave the recluse a pot of dirt seeded with a mushroom spore. With proper care, that spore would grow into a child."
In Mushroom Musume, you initially assume the role of the recluse. The choices you make help shape the type of person (well, mushroom) that your daughter becomes. Will she be a morel girl, rare and deliciously flavored? Or will she be a lowly mold girl? Each girl has unique traits, and many have unique growth requirements. How many different kinds of girl can you raise?
Over the course of the game, you eventually get to play as the daughter you so lovingly cared for. Have you properly equipped her to live in a world full of danger? Or maybe she IS the monster hiding in the woods.
Mushroom Musume was inspired by classic DOS games like 'Princess Maker 2' and 'Alter Ego'. We wanted to design a game that was very quick to prototype, but easy to expand on. We're still in a fairly early state, but we're planning on actively developing the game over the summer as part of PIGSquad's 2022 Summer Slow Jams. It's also just a fun concept, so hopefully we'll still be working on it after that too! We're planning on adding various 'content packs' to go with the themes of the jams.
We just got done with the beginnings of our first 'collectable' system - color palettes! Replay the story with any palette that you've collected previously, or allow the game to automatically color itself based on your mushroom's current coloration. The choice is yours! The next things we're planning on implementing are a Stealth themed content update for the July Summer Slow Jam, as well as more robust persistent collectables (such as a MushroomPedia to keep track of the different girls you've discovered)
