Heileen 1 HTML5 beta testing!

I'm working with Spiky Caterpillar to have some of my simpler games ported in Monkeycoder, a metalanguage that allows exporting to... basically any platform available  this includes iOS, PSVita, etc etc. For now though I'm focusing on the HTML5 since I think will be one of the dominating platforms in future. And in theory you can play the game even using an Android tablet or iPad

So if you want to test Heileen1, check this URL: http://static.winterwolves.com/webgames/heileen/

If you press F11 the browser should go in fullscreen mode, so it almost seems like if you're playing a "normal" game :)

Please note: those who bought the game already can enter their email and play the full game in the browser. I would appreciate if you report any bugs you find! thanks :)

Surprisingly faithful port.

Tested on a desktop, Firefox 18.0
- Save/load screen has horrible slowdown (half-second delay after hovering over an item)
- Textbox resizes when two lines of text visible. Just decrease the padding by a few pixels and it wouldn't have to.
- Lack of rollback/textlog is kinda annoying.
- Disabling the save function at choices is very annoying.
- It's hard to keep save slots apart without a screenshot or date.
- On the save/load screen there's a "quit" button. I'm not sure what sense it makes for that button to be hidden in the save screen. Regardless, when pressed it should ask for confirmation before returning to the title screen.
- Saving during Lora's left/right/left movement just after she appears can cause her to 'stick' to the right side after loading.
- The 'Q' image regularly disappears for a frame or two? Other images can also take a frame or two to display properly.

EDIT:
Tested it on my Android phone:
- Chrome browser: horrible framerate, something like 5 fps
- Stock browser: unable to select the start button, keeps selecting the entire canvas

What's the phone model number? What's the stock browser? (If the OS doesn't have any easy way to figure it out, going to http://spikycaterpillar.com/ThisIsTheSt ... mRedsPhone may let me figure it out from the server log.) Does it allow you to click any of the buttons at all, or do all clicks anywhere select the entire canvas?

No problem with Opera 12. Just when I left a game tab, other tabs slow down significantly.
But there's no right click nor mouse-wheel advance nor ctrl-skip... yeah I know this is a problem of browses not game itself, but hell agony to me (-_-;)

HTC Desire X running ICS. All clicks anywhere (inside the canvas) select the entire canvas.

I've got a test build up with the following changes:

Candidate workaround for the selection bug in Ice Cream Sandwich's stock browser. (I don't have a Droid, so have no idea if this workaround actually works.)
Buttons moved so there should actually be space to touch them.
Load/Save lag in Firefox fixed (apparently tinted drawing is very, very slow in Firefox)
Canvas context now stroked in initialization (fixes a bug where some Firefoxes won't display the canvas until you click or move the mouse)
CPU time optimization (which should stop open Heileen tabs from lagging Everything Else most of the time)

The test build is at http://spikycaterpillar.com/monkey/heil ... tive2.html . Let me know if the fixes actually work for you (or if they break anything else!). Note that the test build cannot be activated; you can only play past the demo if you're playing on the Winter Wolves site.

Nexus 7 with Chrome browser. touchscreen doesn't seem to register proper location. Need to drag around until buttons get highlighted to know where I am clicking.

Updated build doesn't fix the main problem, it still draws a giant selection rectangle over the canvas on every press. I've found a way to proceed past the title screen on both versions -- longpressing seems to sometimes register as a click. Past the title screen, nearly every click on the screen is registered, but the save/load buttons are as fickle as those on the title screen.

Can't play this under Firefox. The clicks do not register, on neither of the buttons, so all I get is the title screen and the guitar music.

Well that's really weird! Just to be clear you mean Windows+Firefox ?

Win7, latest Firefox. Looks like a performance problem to me, somehow - when I go fullscreen, the screen just goes black, though the music continues.

Really odd, I tested it here on Win7 + FF/Chrome/IE9 and worked, on Mac Mountain Lion + Safari/Chrome/FF and worked. For the Android/iPad tablet I could understand a performance problem, and honestly it wasn't even my aim to have the game playable on those devices, since clearly HTML5 is not as good as some evangelist want us to believe  But on desktop? that's really weird!
