Art Learning Resources
Re: Art Learning Resources
Don't know if it has been said yet but:
MakeHuman
It's actually a program to create humans easily and it's brilliant for reference.
You can create some human with the sliders and pulling the body parts, making different body shapes possible.
It's awesome. <3

Re: Art Learning Resources
I'm switching my drawing tool to Clip studio paint - 64bit version of Illust studio and Manga studio. It's cheaper than SAI but more functional, and there's also mac OS version.
It's only in Japanese yet, but I've heard (unofficial?) English translation is going on.

Re: Art Learning Resources
Someone on my Plurk timeline popped up this link:
http://firealpaca.com/
According to the person, Fire Alpaca is a lightweight program if Sai and OpenCanvas had a baby and it's FREE to download to boot. I'm going to try it out and give thoughts later in the art dump thread, but just putting this out there.

Re: Art Learning Resources
One of the best painting programs has not been mentioned in my opinion:
MyPaint
It has an amazing amount of different brushes and pens, some experimental ones as well. Supports infinite canvas that can be mirrored. All of the brushes can be customized and there's an editor to create your own. Layers are supported as well and the drawings / paintings can be exported so that you get a transparent PNG for each of the layers.
I thought about buying ArtRage, but after using MyPaint for a while I just don't see the point. I like MyPaint a lot more. Did I mention that it's free?

Re: Art Learning Resources
For 2D animation, I found a great program. Unfortunately, it's only available in Japanese. (For now)
It's called Live2D
It's actually 2D/3D (a mix of the two) and it makes smooth animations!
I heard some Japanese VN companies use them to make animated sprites.

Re: Art Learning Resources
I just came across the start of an amazing tutorial series for drawing the head based off of Andrew Loomis' teachings.
http://youtu.be/1EPNYWeEf1U
There's only one video at the moment, but it was uploaded about five hours ago and it's definitely worth watching.

Hmm.. The new version of openCanvas seems neat (woohoo Ruler Tool !). There's a sale going on lasting until the end of the month too... Hnnggghhh, they're toying with me !
Link if you wish to check it out here.
Be careful though, it's only available on Windows.

Re: Art Learning Resources
A new (free) digital art program called FireAlpaca has come out and is for Windows and Mac. I'm playing around with it, but can't tell you all that much (it's alright so far).
Also, it has an adorable mascot.
"I will send a fully armed battalion to remind you of my love."

Re: Art Learning Resources
I did just linked that a month or two ago haha. I have it downloaded, and I think it's a great free program (still sticking with Sai since FireAlpaca's pen response doesn't feel quite as right to me)

That's probably my bad. I've updated the lists now (though I really should go back and link everything).MaiMai wrote:I did just linked that a month or two ago haha. Re: Art Learning Resources
Okay, how did I NOT know about this!?
This is a tool that comes with Photoshop (and Illustrator/InDesign) and allows you to create different colour schemes in harmony. You can find it under Windows>Extensions. Again, how did I not know this was there? D:
Also, a free pen perspective tool for photoshop, which is awesome! http://fuckingarthowdoesitwork.tumblr.c ... artmedia-a
