Paint Tool SAI Problems.

#1 Post by azureXtwilight »

Lately my Paint Tool SAI has refused to save anything except in .psd format. It always said "Saving Canvas Failed". No matter how many times I have reinstalled it, it keeps doing the same thing. This has never happened before, so does anyone have a solution to this? .PSD doesn't have the awesome blur tool like SAI does, so I'd prefer still using it~ Thank you :D

It happens to me every time I open a PSD file! >:
I usually either don't try to save anything non-PSD while working on a PSD, or I just don't open PSDs.
To save a PSD as a PNG, JPG or something else, I use Photoshop.

Hope this helps X_x

Oh my, SAI has this problem? I've never occurred it before, but perhaps something wrong with the settings in SAI then?
And perhaps you should try saving the file name with .jpg, .png, or .sai at the end?

What is type of SAI are you using? The full version? Portable?

I'll try to browse and see in their websites if anyone else has already have this problem solved.

Edit: I found some people in dA that have experienced the same problem as yours. There are various ways to settle it, so you should check them out.

Sounds to me like someone grabbed themselves the Demo version. (labled as "free paint tool sai")

Either buy the full version which is no longer supported in the states or get the "other" free beta version. Either way I have the latter pm for link

Just fixed it myself! Googling for a solution really helped, lol.

I downloaded and run Microsoft Security Essentials, restarted Windows and bam! Everything works normally again (:

Maybe it'll help you too ^^

mine doesn't have the exact same problem, but from time to time it doesn't like exporting to .png and every once in awhile doesn't save as .sai. usually if i keep opening and closing it it eventually decides to cooperate.

Save problem on SAI is usually caused by following reasons:
1) RAM shortage
2) HDD shortage
3) Invalid file/pass names
4) Invalid license

However, There is other problems on psd files.
If you can't save as psd, this is an adobe software bug which locks psd files. You need to check your adobe's application behavior.
If you can only save as .psd, this mechanism is still unknown. Perhaps you got a virus?

BTW, SAI changes it's transparent data when it saves data as .psd. It's almost invisible, but at least you should know save as .psd isn't lossless in SAI.

Hmm, but luminosity in .sai and .psd are very different and it was what's lost when I open .sai files in .psd. :(

umm...so I googled some answers, and well I found this comment by a user on Deviantart:

http://deiseki.deviantart.com/journal/O ... -277782304

aikaparanoid :
I had the same problem before. And my solution is that DO NOT use SAI to open the PSD files when creating new canvas (maybe there's something wrong with the PSD files... ).In that way,you can save the new canvas as ".sai" file.Remember that if once you opened PSD files on SAI,you should REOPEN SAI before you create new canvas,or you'll be unable to save new canvas as".sai" files.
Btw,my advice for the PSD files is that editing these files just on Photoshop and not on SAI(because it can't be saved as ".sai" files anymore.)Hope it will be helped.C:

I don't know if it would help but I would hate it if my sai acted up like this. so I hope you find a answer. :(
