^ Type one's the one for me, too.
(It looks just so much... more natural.)
But I also accept a little bit translucent hair.
(I did this in the past and I still do it in sketches... which is more because of my messiness, but whatever.)

But what annoys me the most is this... "behind the eye hair".
I mean, how does this even work--do they cut it of when nobody is looking?

(Btw, clua, you should totally make a colour tutorial--I always adore the ones in your drawings. <3)

I think that if the character is designed so the hair goes in front of the eyes, then go ahead and make it cover the eyes!

It's cute, isn't it? If their eyes are truly meant to be seen, comb back their fringe or something. Since I draw in plain ink and most of my characters have hair that would be dark enough to be completely blacked out, I can't really take that "eyes over hair" route even if I wanted to.

Eyes is the heart of anime style, especially for big-eyes ones. So you may not want anything to block the eye. Usually, the artist will try the draw so the hair is not blocking the eyes, if possible.

By having hair blocking the eye (and with hair style that blocks much of the eyes), you will get the impression that the character is super-shy or something like that.
