Thank you Azure(Clara?)~

You're really such a nice person. I'm glad I was able to please you~
sake-bento wrote:It's different for each photo I work with, but the rough process is as so:
-Acquire photograph.
-Erase sky (leaving the buildings or whatever on a layer with transparency where sky should be).
-Adjust color. Usually you're looking to increase the brightness and the saturation, since general BGs are brighter looking than normal photos. I always play with adjusting brightness, levels, huge, and saturation. Sometimes I use color variation, especially if the scene is "colored" like a night or sunset scene.
-Filter photo. There are tons of different filters that all work to varying degrees. My personal Photoshop favorites are paint daubs and smart blur. For the original set of RE:A backgrounds, I also vectorized the images using Vector Magic.
-Paint sky. I digitally paint the entire sky on a layer beneath the filtered and adjusted photo. Pay attention to the light source in the photo so that you draw your sun or moon in the right place.
-Paint photo. Paint over anything in the digital photo that looks out of place. Some lines will need to be straightened out, certain outlines should be made more obvious, etc. Basically paint over anything that still looks too much like a filtered photo. I also use this time to add details like the moonlight shining on the building on the left.
-Paint everything else. Add whatever else to the scene you need (in this case, the fence).
-Merge and do final touch ups. I occasionally need to do "replace color" on the photo to make the lighting look right. It's also sometimes beneficial to use the "diffuse glow" filter (just turn the noise part off).
Tada! Backgrounds for the perspective-impaired (like me XD). The most important parts, I think, are to adjust the colors and draw the sky yourself. That's what really makes it look like a fully painted background to me.
Aka Matte painting! Wow, if you pursue this you could work on the movie industry

Keep up the good work!

Very nice work azraillesama. You've got a unique style!
As for me, here's a WIP of a big CG with me experimenting with different poses and attempting to do another huge group picture. (Definitely not as big as the Halloween collab I did with a friend, but close enough). All of these characters are my OCs

@Headache - Thank you~!
@MaiMai - The majority still prefers mainstream tho

and i really love how you draw your characters, they portray their expressions well, and your girls seems to be so fragile/nice. Keep up the good work!
@Pyonkotchi - I just use a hair brush, then stroke light dark alternately. And your art style, I pretty much like the character design particularly the concept. She's so cute :3

@sakurazaki wow it looks so realistic! I'd really love to learn that for my VN too (making "perfect" people)

My third advertising series, this time still featuring 3D TV. The victim, cough... I mean the star this time is different than usual, she is the sister of our poor girl from my previous advertising piece (the green haired girl). Apparently, her sister has different and "creative" use of her big sis' 3D TV.
At first, she should be a boy. I need a pervert as the main role this time, so a boy would be better.. but not only I don't like drawing a boy, it's also strange if a boy barging in to his own sister without permission... at least that's what I thought. So in the end, I made her/him as a even cuter but pervert little girl.
BTW, both of them still have no name yet. Care to name them?
With the advent of 3D TV, I guess now they could port all those 3D cinema movies into Blu-Ray or DVD... though sometimes I wonder what is the difference between normal TV and 3D TV since a friend of mine told me that even a normal TV could display a 3D program as long as you have the goggles.
There is no real difficulty in this piece, but I have to sketch several times before finding the right angle for the 3rd panel picture. I hope this little fan service could be enjoyed by everyone ^_^ It's the theme anyway, so I can't avoid drawing them. Hohoho...
Oh, and as usual, if you are interested in higher resolution version, you could always download it from my DA account.

My latest:
http://fav.me/d2sh2vb
Still working on making lighting work at night. =_= I always get it wrong.
You could base your lighting on your background. Your character doesn't blend in because he is lit by very different light than your city. You could start by observing that it's night but there is a faint blue skylight. So the colors will be dark, deep but lighter on the top of the head, nose, shoulders etc... anything that faces the sky. Then you can add touches of orange around the right edges of the silhouette and light blue on the left ones, to mimic the reflection from the city's artificial lighting.
edit : Now I noticed that you actually did shade the top of his left arm and his right thigh with a light blue reflection, so you were already on the right track. Also, his coat has a good level of luminosity, dark as it should be, maybe it's a bit too saturated ? In contrast, the skin, hair etc... stand out because they have much lighter colors that don't match the general lighting of the scene.
