Re: Getting a transparent background
Transparent background on what?
I'm no expert, but if you are drawing from scratch, you just draw on a transparent background.
If you have a pre-existing piece of art that doesn't have a transparent background, what I did was use GIMP, which is Multiplatform and free. I outlined the work of art and pasted that onto a transparent layer.
I'm sure someone with more experience could tell you more.

*Last Thing Done (Aug 17): Finished coding emotions and camera for 4/10 main labels.
*Currently Doing: Coding of emotions and camera for the labels--On 5/10
*First Next thing to do: Code in all CG and special animation stuff
*Next Next thing to do: Set up film animation
*Other Thing to Do: Do SFX and Score (maybe think about eye blinks?) Check out My Clock Cookbook Recipe: http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewto ... 51&t=21978

Re: Getting a transparent background
Download Gimp, bring the picture up, right-click the layer in the layers toolbox, 'add alpha channel', erase what you want to be transparent (let it be with the eraser or wand) the save as a png or jpeg (or anything that supports transparency).
I'm assuming this was a follow-up from the previous post you made, so in the case of the sprites using the magic wand and playing with the tolerance will be your best bet. I would add images to show you step-by-step but I can only do so much on this silly oversized IPod

Re: Getting a transparent background
^ If I'm not wrong, jpeg does not support transparency.
I think png is the best format you should use as it occupies lesser space I think :3
*Alternatively, if you don't want to download anything, you can go to pixlr.com, create a new file and select transparent. If you're adding images, then you can use the wand tool/eraser.

Re: Getting a transparent background
Depends on your version, there's a SAI that allows you to save as PNG 32bpp ARGB (I don't know what that means) as opposed to 24bpp RGB, and it supports transparent PNG, I just tested right now.-LKays wrote:Hi.

However, if you don't have this version, do it in roundabout way: draw in SAI > leave the most bottom layer empty (it'll function as background layer later on in PSD) > save as .psd > open in PS/GIMP > save as PNG.
I did it all the time (when I need one, anyway).
Moved account to fuicchi.

White and transparent background are two different things. But I guess v3-kei already answer you how to get a transparent background in SAI.-LKays wrote:Hi.
