Once I learn how to do arms and shade properly, would this be okay standard for character sprites?

And presuming it's a sprite that only shows their top half.

If you check out projects people are working on or have completed, you can get a good feel for what kind of standard of artwork people enjoy. That being said, I don't believe there is any real standard, at least from what I've seen on these forums. There have been amazing projects that don't have top notch artwork. (If someone would be so kind to provide some examples; I'm drawing a mental blank at the moment :'D)

I think it's more important you focus on creating what you like, and I'm sure once people see your enthusiasm, interest will follow regardless of skill ^_^. Your artwork itself is very cute, but if you wish to improve yourself, there are lots of art resources and tutorials for you to read at your leisure. I'm sure some artists here wouldn't mind lending a hand every so often as well :D.

Wishing you the best of luck with your projects!

Ahh! Thank you :)
I just really want to get it to a decent standard before I start using it in any actual projects if you know what I mean?
See, I tend to always, well, grade a visual novel on it's art as much as the story, ya know?
Hehe, I'm rambling again... ^^

Perfectly understandable :D

There's no problem in improving yourself until you feel like you've met your own, personal standards. Of course, there's nothing wrong with diving straight into it, either! Improving your skills with drawing is a gradual process, so I'm certain you're bound to learn heaps while creating your game anyway~

Take as long or as little time as you'd like, I'm looking forward to your work :D

Yeah I have to agree with Tag- here and say, while you should always strive to improve, I wouldn't let your level of talent (or lack of it) hold you back from creating! I'm still not the best artist or writer but, espically for freeware games, I tend to direct my critque to the story itself rather than the artwork. I know how much it can cost in time, effort and real cash to get quality artwork, etc. so judge mainly on the effort and presentation when it comes to the art half of things :) I think you're off to a good start and would advise you to look up some tutorials, practice more, shade you're spirte and set up a critque thread to get in-depth help on anatomy and so on. People can be harsh for no good reason but it'll benefit you greatly in the long run.
