Facial Diversity Tutorial

#1 Post by Duskylli » Fri May 02, 2014 1:50 am

If you find yourself drawing the same face shape, hair, eyes etc. (I always draw A-shaped bangs, no nose and young attractive people) check out this tutorial by Forever Avenged In a nutshell you choose a cartoon/anime/actors and redraw the characters in your own style but pay attention to their facial features.

Part 1
Part 2

Sorry if you've seen this already. I just thought it would be fun to see other people's styles and what cartoons they watch :p

I chose a show which had older and unattractive characters. I think I still need to work on the 'Old' part though.

Neat!
I don't watch cartoons, but I like what you've done with your sketches. :o

I agree that facial diversity is crucial. Even just the shape of a character's chin can drastically alter what our initial impressions are of the character, which is important especially in the context of visual novels!
It's pretty interesting that you can tell the basic personality of most well-designed characters just from their physical profile. No doubt facial differences are a big part of that.

Thanks. Oh you can try it with other things like actors from movies, tv etc (I forgot to add it in).

Indeed. But sometimes its fun to create a character design which is totally opposite to the character's personality to mess with people's heads :p
