Where is Gimp's Pen Tool?
Where is Gimp's Pen Tool?
I heard of this really good tool in GIMP called Pen but where is it? So far I have used only the pencil tool, which has caused my digital drawings to suck in comparison to my paper drawings.

Re: Where is Gimp's Pen Tool?
There's no pen tool to my knowledge, but there is a path tool which is similar. It works sorta like a vector tool, and it was what I used before getting a tablet. Open up GIMP and go to the tool window. Click on the tool that look's like a calligraphy pen's nib. It's called the path tool. Click somewhere on the canvas where you want to lay the lines, and keep clicking, following your lines. What'll happen is that a selection path will be created. You can manipulate the lines and points to better fit your sketch.
Click stroke path, and choose what sort of line style you want or if you even want it to look like it has a pattern or brush stroke. Click the enter/stroke button at the bottom and then deselect somewhere on the canvas to see your lines. And that's that. It's extremely time consuming, but definitely worth it if you can't afford a tablet. Hell, even with a tablet, it's worth it (and a bit easier on your hands).
Do make all your lineart in one go though, as if you mess up, it'll be hard to fix it. And obviously work on a new layer. Hoped I could help!

I believe you want either photoshops or SAI's vector tool. You can get SAI for free.
Either that or get a tablet.

You mean you can pirate SAI. The program itself is about 53 USD.burnt_offering wrote:I believe you want either photoshops or SAI's vector tool. You can get SAI for free.

If you want a pen tool I like Inkscape. It works a lot like Illustrator and it's free.

Nerdy might also be interested in the paintbrush tool, which is one to the right of the pencil tool. The paintbrush offers anti-aliasing and pressure-sensitivity if you have a tablet.
