Weekly drawing -- source of drawing motivation

Hey guys!

Last year, there was this amazing thread where artists on this subforum would pick weekly themes and create pieces inspired by those themes. It seems like that thread has died (even though it lasted for the entirety of 2014!), which is sad, because it was a lot of fun and I came here hoping that it would still be alive and well.

Here's how weekly drawing works:

1. It's sort of like the art dumpage thread, except every week we pick a theme, create works inspired by that theme, and share them in the thread.
2. Anyone is welcome to chime in with the theme! The theme could be a word, topic, emotion, color, story idea, or even a very vague/abstract topic! For example, if the theme was "abandoned umbrella," the art might depict an umbrella, a situation in which someone lost their umbrella, or even something looser like a thought or scene that reminded them of abandoned umbrellas.
3. Once you've finished your work, you can post it in here at any time! (Even if life happens and you're a little late :))
4. After you've posted your work, take a look around at the other works posted by people, and share your comments/ideas/praise/criticisms about their work if you feel like it! Even if it's to say something simple like, "I like the color palette that you chose". It's always awesome to get feedback & will help others improve.
5. All skill levels, styles, and mediums are welcome! It doesn't matter if you're just beginning or you've been doing this for years, if you like to draw anime-styled or hyper realistic, or if you paint digitally or with watercolors on canvas. This thread is to help you create, get motivated, and experiment!

Some themes we've done in the past:

- Hold my hand
- Dragons
- Vampires
- Metamorphosis
- Space
- Wild West
- Pre-historic
- Fairy Tales

So, would anyone be interested in doing something like this again? It was pretty awesome because it fostered organic conversations with other artists on techniques, color theory, digital painting, and all sorts of other crazy fun things related to art. I'm also open to suggestions on how we can improve on last years thread & way of doing things!

I should also note: these drawings don't have to be extremely polished works of art! They can be quick and dirty sketches, even. Unfinished works are always welcome!

Also, you don't have to challenge yourself to draw every week (though you're more than welcome to if you'd like!) It's totally cool to take a few weeks off and then come back. Or don't. But we'll be sad if you leave forever.

To kickstart us off, why not have this week's theme be pirates? Because who doesn't love pirates, rum, treasure, beaches, and johnny depp!? We'll go from this Monday (7/13/2015) to next Monday (7/10/2015)! So from now until feel free to submit pirate-related art!

This week's theme is Loss!
The beginning for this week's theme starts August 18th (2015) and ends August 25th!

I'm really excited & hope there are some people out there who will be too!! :D

Man how time flies. I still remember taking part in the weekly drawing thread last year.

Needless to say, I'm participating again and hope to see more folks join in. Remember to take it easy and have fun!

Thanks for hosting, Sasquatchii!

This is great! I used to hold a thread just like this called "Challenge me" a few years back. I'll try to participate. :3

I'm in! This sounds like lots of fun!!

My first attempt at "attractive man" art style. Pretty happy with this rough, actually, despite his receding hair. :D

I'll try, even though I haven't drawn seriously since 1997!

Super duper quicky sketch, sorry. Will try to do better next time!

Oh my gosh, I was not expecting so much interest right from the start! The entries so far look fabulous!!

I'm also slightly envious that you guys can crank out such awesome things so quickly!! With me it takes *days* if not longer xD

Finally finished :) Too lazy to change the lineart to a different color or make it any more detailed . I hope this is good enough.

Personal challenge: draw something in less than an hour
It took around 45min: 30min to get a balance body and then 15min to make it pirate-ish  X3 (Though I always wondered if wooden legs really were used at that century...)
Also...

Couldn't do something more polished in 1 hour
I'll try to make something better next week!

This kind of thread is really nice, it makes us draw things we're not used to! So thanks for creating it!

I totally agree with you, Didules. I can never think of something to draw, nor do I ever have the motivation. Now I can draw something more unusual for me. It's great practice for drawing and drawing prompts. I hope this thread lasts.

I remember the old thread, though I never participated, but I see I have another chance now.

Not my favorite drawing ever, but...a pirate girl!
There's so many pretty things here already. I love Steamgirl's character. X) And Harliqueen had a very interesting (and well-executed) idea, it really looks like a scene from a pirate story.

EDIT: Why is the forum killing the image... You have to click it to view the original.
EDIT 2: Well, fixed it.

I like this idea, I'll try to participate often!

This is not my best drawing (took me like 30 minutes or so, and pretty much improvised on the spot), but it feels good as a rest from other illustrations I'm working on.
