How to make anime backgrounds?

Can someone teach me how to make backgrounds for renpy?

I can't really teach you how over the 'net, and there are some cool tutorials out there anyway. I can in an attempt to be helpful point out http://www.publicdomainpictures.net/ as a free resource. I even donate pictures there on occasion.

There isn't any magical way to make them. You either draw them digitally or find someone who can and commission them.

Alternatives include buying a pack of pre-made backgrounds, looking for ones that have a free license (though these will likely be poor quality or if not, really commonly used), or putting a photo filter over a real photo (looks the worst but can work if you are desperate).
