Hello everyone. I was wondering what you thought about the use of Dlsite's art (mainly for backgrounds).

I myself think it's high quality but there's the reoccurring issue that the other art, such as sprites or CGs, won't match the backgrounds whether in terms of style or quality. What are your thoughts on this?

Re: Opinion on Dlsite Art
I have bought backgrounds from DLsite. Personally, I think the quality of the backgrounds are not too bad as is, but not stellar either. But the good thing about buying BGs from the site is that you can alter the pictures and improve them to your own preferences without any legal issues. So you can change them to match the sprites and CGs that you want. Of course, there will be some time and energy required for that. I would recommend buying backgrounds from DLsite if you're really low on funds and have some skill in touching up images.
Re: Opinion on Dlsite Art
Couldn't open the site coz it's blocked by my internet provider OAO but looking at those bgs you posted, some certainly need touch up, like those sunset scene on the bottom right corner. As for 'will it match the sprites and the cg?' issue, I don't know the style and quality of your sprites, but many vn, even made by Key, have this huge gap (in term of details and realism) between the sprites and background. Why not make mock up first? That way, we can share our opinion whether the background you buy match with the sprites you have or not =)

@morinoir
DL site is, by default, an R18 website.
Is it your ISP, or something else on your end? It might just be some net nanny software from your anti-virus, etc.

Lol it's no wonder then. Pretty sure it's my ISP =D I'm okay as long as they don't blocked deviantart again, because I get most of my job from there >A<Imperf3kt wrote:@morinoir

@morinoir : have you tried using google DNS? I use it to bypass my ISP's blacklist

You have quite the oppressive ISP if it's restricting your searches THAT much.
Unless you're using a network owned by someone else that has set up blocks on what can be accessed.

Sorry if the image is too small!

@morinoir does this help some?
Thanks for everyone's advice so far! Unfortunately I have no artistic skills whatsoever :/ Though commissioning isn't in my budget right now. I had planned on using materials from around the web but the styles don't match and I'd like at least some consistency.
