So as the title says, I would Like to know the size you pick for your "Canvas".
On my last work, I went for 2 x 4k size and 350 dpi ... the problem? when you resize your work, it looses a lot of quality! I usually try to draw on a large canvas so that I can zoom in and work on details,
But at the end, it just doesn't work for me!

I would Love to know about the reason you pick other sizes and dpi.

I only work at the intended resolution and 96dpi. This generally gives me nice results.

The image in my signature is one such example. The text anyway, the Ren'Py logo and the Raspberry Pi logo were art assets I borrowed.

For vn sprite, I usually work on around 3000 pixels canvas. That way if client needs it for other purpose (maybe they want to print it? Who knows?) the artwork still maintain its quality. But I don't think the quality drops after I resize/downscale it? Unless what you mean by 'resize' is upscaling your work (aka, make it bigger).

Can you specify what you mean by 'quality'? The problem could be because you choose wrong option to resize your artwork.

Morinoir - What is a 3000 pixel canvas? Is that the resolution you are talking about? Cause that seems really really big lol.

I can say one thing for sure SinaAzad, you need to do you work with at least 300ppi or dpi, I guess it's the same thing. When I resize my work, I don't seem to lose any quality, maybe it's a setting you're using. The artist working for me gives me large images that I can print out on posters and I really like that. I opened an image to check the dimensions and it reads this in Photoshop:

Pixel Dimensions: 22.1M
Width 2280 pixels
Height 3394 pixels

Document Size:
7.6 inches
11.3 inches
Resolution 299.99 pixels/inch

Well, what I did was drawing at 7680 x 4320 pixel (which is twice the size of the 4k standard) and with a resolution of 350 dpi, what I did was downscaling it to 800 x 600 (to put it on forums).

The method highly depends on how you scaled the files down.
I suggest Bicubic scaling

I use 1280x720 at 300dpi. I was taught to use this somewhere (I'm not sure where, it was so long ago), but it's a good size for drawing details (without custom Photoshop brushes lagging the program), and it's a good size for players who want to record a Let's Play video of the game.

Same as katy, I'd say it depends on the game resolution (or screen res). If it's full body I adjust the height but maintain the width. I'm still a noob tho so there is probably a better way to do it .

Lol I meant the dimension. Height and width? Not the dpi. I'm not a fluent English speaker so my words often jumble XD
For your reference, here's an example of my canvas information. Also adding more information to Imperf3kt suggestion, using bicubic option will keep the line art smooth. On the contrary, if you want to sharpen the image while reducing the size, I usually use 'bicubic automatic' or use 'smart sharpen' option on photoshop for better control of the amount you want to sharpen.

I used to start with a large canvas before but I found that my proportions are usually always off or I start adding details too early.

Nowadays, I start with 1000x1000. It's good enough for sketching and practically prevents too much detail, once I'm happy with the overall sketch, I increase the canvas size to roughly 200%, really depends on the piece though.

Thanks for the support guys, well I tried the Bicubic on Photoshop but the results were sad so I went ahead and imported that psd to Clip Studio Paint and tried to change the size there.

Guess what? It worked like a charm.

I just had to choose smooth in how to correct section.

My guess is that "smooth correction" is merely applying antaliasing after resizing.
