Tips on my Fake Dating Site

#1 Post by dIgItayel »

Much of my game is based off of messaging others through an online dating site. I've created a base home page, but I don't really like how it looks. Any tips to make it look better?

Just so you all know, the white spaces above the profiles will eventually contain a picture of the person. I just haven't gotten around to drawing them yet.
Thanks!

Maybe some more stuff, like having something like "My account" and "log out" in the upper corner, a search engine thingy, some stuff on the sides linking to other things on the site (I have never used a dating site so I don't know what would be there,) and maybe an ad or two. None of that would have to do anything btw.

Other than that, if you don't want to add any more stuff and just want to change what you have maybe you could change the boxes. I think maybe try making the boxes longer rather than wider, but if the art needs to be wide then scaling everything down and having more profiles could give you the look you want, I made some rough changes to show you what I mean

You could also try experimenting with the colors, try having more shades of blue if you want to stick with blue for everything. You could use variation in the big areas that doesn't have much of it, like in the background and the area where the message is, I'll attatch another rough image to show what I mean. There could also be some sort of pattern in the background but it depends on how you want it to look and stuff.

Lastly I just wanted to say that I like how it looks right now! It could use with some variation but that will be achieved with the images of the people and them not being there could make it look like something is lacking, so don't fret too much about it!

I recommend learning to use a grid system for graphic/web design if you haven't already.

It is a huge part of layout and it can really help balance things and maintain a sense of harmony, beauty and organization

I think it's a very good start, but the website feels a bit outdated and flat (depending on when you game it set, you'll want it to look more like current websites like YouTube, Twitter, etc, which is currently aiming for rounded shapes that "pop"). The text to the left feels a bit cut-off, so more space should be added around your sidebar text (imagine an invisible grid around each word).

I found some resources that may help you with design choices:
-Website layout/font/colour use: http://www.creativebloq.com/web-design/ ... out-812625
-Design showcase for inspiration: https://www.thebestdesigns.com/
-A showcase of clean (uses white space) websites: https://www.awwwards.com/websites/clean/
