I personally found the documents about the gui a little hard to understand, because I don't have a good head for code. So I put together a spreadsheet for the images used in the default gui and a bit of information about where they appear. This way, without having to go through the code, you should be able to replace these images with your own customised image in the same size, save them as the same file name in the same folder and it should work without a problem. Ideal if all you want to do is change a few colours around or try out a few different designs.
The file is on my google drive here, and you're more than welcome to use it, share it on, and so on. If there's anything that could improve it, let me know and I will edit the document as needed. I hope it is helpful!

Re: Visual Guide to Gui Images
Great idea!
Is there a way to get it as a pdf file?
Would make a nice offline reference.
Thanks
