I'm making anime-style backgrounds from photographs

Hello! I'm a background artist for an in-development visual novel. I'm making all the backgrounds from CC photographs, and would like a bit of feedback, and if you think these fit the definition of an "anime-esque" style, thanks!

I am still in the process of searching for a sprite/CG artist, so it's a bit too early to tell if their style would blend well with mine. On that topic, I definitely want a soft, anime-esque moe style.

I used a cartoon filter (GIMP 2.8 ) on the first background.
I think that is a good effect, but that is of course a question of taste.

I follow a technique similar to the one in this Youtube video. I also release .PSD files for my Patreons, so you can check that out too!

I've gotten to photoshopping my own pictures of Canada as backgrounds! I'm a pretty good photographer, if I have to say.
