Worst Writing Advices?

What are some of the bad writing advices you received or overheard? They might be controversial (work for some people but not others), or often-misinterpreted advices, like "Write what you know".

I don't think this would be a very useful thread as there isn't much to discuss in this segment (just everybody writing down what they think is "bad advice"), plus it's against our rules for poll-like threads.
