To elaborate a little more on Lexer's point about funerals, most larger schools (such as universities or sufficently populated high schools in my experience) tend towards a respectful silence on student deaths and perhaps a quiet assembly of those close to the deceased (such as colleagues or current students) for teachers. There are, however, student-organized memorials that may involve some kind of collaborative mourning (such as planting a tree together or creating some kind of displayable art), but these are usually not officially endorsed by the school or performed on school grounds.
