Writing a 'language barrier'?

#1 Post by -Ren- » Wed Nov 26, 2014 3:01 pm

Hello all!,

So, I'm currently working on a visual novel that involves my protagonist being forcibly relocated to a foreign country (for certain reasons). Upon arriving, they meet a young girl whom they fall in love with... yah de yah da, I'm sure you see where that's going.

My main problem, is how to properly convey the language barrier between the two characters without it getting too repetitive or too boring for the reader. Given that Visual Novels rely HEAVILY on narration and dialogue, this sort of setting is difficult, and I'm completely stumped on how I should implement it.

Does anybody have any ideas that could help with this?

Thanks, Ren.

a2 ~a due~ is an otome game whose two main characters have to deal with a language barrier. I think it might be worth your while to see how they handled it there.
