I'm going to echo this. I'm kind of bored of perfect sex with perfect bodies and perfect everything. I'm okay without sex being in a story (or in it explicitly)...but it's rarely this wonderful magical thing that goes by without a hitch. (I mean, it's wonderful and magical but there are also all those...practical realities.) The sex scene from the graphic novel "Watchmen" does this really well.

Violence, too, isn't pretty and glossy and wonderful. It has real repercussions for everyone touched by it. Dead bodies *stink* (and not just because they empty their bowels, although that tends to happen).

Mature themes don't *have* to include sex and violence. But (to me, at least) it does come off as kind of childish when either come off as super clean and glossy as...neither is.

For adult audience, you can use complex wording/fancy dictionary terms; while for children, try to use simple words. That's the basic I can suggest.
