Identify this music?

#1 Post by SuperbowserX »

My favorite game and visual novel of all time, as well as the game that inspired me to get into Ren'py, uses this song as it's casual theme. I love this background music for normal times when things aren't too emotional or tense. What are similar songs to it? If I wanted to find similar kinds of music, what would I Google/search for on YouTube?

Also, side question: anyone know of any good genres to look in when I am looking for BGM that can play during casual/normal scenes (ideally one that would fit in a contemporary police mystery game, so nothing too fantasy or fictional)?

I'd try searching for "ambient", "calming", "relaxing", "casual" or even "contemporary" music genres.

All of those words aren't what I am looking for -- because they are *too* relaxing, *too* calm, *too* ambient for BGM. I want something that sounds like nice BGM, not just stuff that matches those descriptions. If I Google "ambient music" or "calm music" youtube videos that music would be *too* serene to work as BGM. This song is a perfect fit; it's not too downbeat or upbeat it's just right.

Any idea what this track specifically would fall under.

Nope, I can't really define it.

Any idea what kinds of specific genres or types of musics (or categories on creative commons music sites) I would go to to find music similarly purposed to this (even if it's not a similar genre)?

That is, music that can be played during regular, non-tense times in a game? Music that is fairly relaxing (as this song is), not too intense and not too soft/sad?

Well, I am not able to classify it myself, so the best I can suggest is to use the excellent tools at Incompetech:
