Record Problem

I’m really struggling to record vocals over a backing beat, every time I click record it starts recording separate without incorporating the beat.
A microphone captures only what it is aimed at. How is your routing/recording process?
You have to bring a separate audio file in to a DAW - a digital audio workstation (Pro Tools, Reaper, Cubase, StudioOne etc.) - which is the backing track.
Then you record your performance on a separate track in the same session/project file.
