Nanolife [2012] [FINISHED~!]
Nanolife will join its brothers and sisters in the NaNoReNo month~ We only started thinking about it these past few days, so this opening post won't have much content yet and everything is still rough (like the logo).
Synopsis
A boy has recently found a great MMORPG in the depths of the internet. Excited, he stays up behind his computer late at night, while a thunderstorm is roaring outside. However, just as he completed his character creation - thunder strikes!
All electricity and thus also his computer shut down at once, leaving him in the dark. Though sad, he has no choice but to wait for now. However, in the game, his character has already begun playing without him...
Further information
This visual novel will focus on adventures in a MMO world through the eyes of an AI, so we'll try to make it look as MMO-ish as we can.
Title screen
The normal size is 1920x1080, so this is just a preview. The characters you see will appear once you finish their respective routes.
What it looks like when reading:
We'll make everything ourselves and not use freeware. It will have choices and three routes with one ending each and no bad ends (I cannot harm chibies), 1920x1080 resolution (Full HD, hell yeah) and maybe small background animations where I can think of them (and if time allows me to). Perhaps more features will creep in, but this is all we have planned for the moment.
All right, let's do this!

Do want. Now.Once upon a herpaderpderpderp...
So it's set inside an MMORPG? Does that mean that there'll be some battle segments, or is it just a pure VN with MMO-like GUI? Whatever the case is, I'm interested

Even the sketch GUI makes me want to play. *___* Sounds like a great premise, too.

Re: Nanolife [2012]
I'm all for MMOs!! (even if I had to stop playing them so they wouldn't suck away my time *has terrible sense of time*).
I like your GUI mockup, and I like the idea quite a lot (:
Good luck! ^^

Oh wow, this looks really cool! I'm loving the plot synopsis and I'm looking forward to seeing how a VN set inside of an MMO will be. *_* Good luck!

Re: Nanolife [2012]
Neat idea! Only one thing: can you PLEASE leave your art style exactly like in the mockup? Including the handwritten "Once upon a herpaderpderpderp" font? It would be SO awesome to have a VN that looks like it was drawn somewhere on the way between the bathroom and the bedroom. So. Damn. Cute.

Re: Nanolife [2012]
Yup it's set inside a MMORPG! It will have battles but nothing like a RPG or anything really. You see, my coder lives a little bit too close by for me to suggest the development of a real battle system within a month :D... she will murder me.CheeryMoya wrote: So it's set inside an MMORPG? Haha! I didn't see that one coming, oh man. Who knew anyone would like my 2 AM art?Taleweaver wrote:Neat idea! Only one thing: can you PLEASE leave your art style exactly like in the mockup? Though I'm afraid I'll have to make it a bit more polished than this, but I'll keep the general style in mind and if I have enough time I'll include a small special-horrible-edition in the extras >:).
And thanks a lot everyone, this is super motivating <3!

Re: Nanolife [2012]
We use NVList as our engine, which we find a bit easier to use than Ren'Py at some points. Or did you mean how to create the battle system? We don't have much game-play actually – When you're fighting, you'll have a choice, but there's no real battle system incorporated. With two people working on this and one month, we just don't have the time to add something like that and make it worthwhile haha.clua wrote:Hello Anna, I was wondering which engine do you use for making games like this?

And as a small update for this project: after we finish editing it, the script will be done today :D! The sprites and more GUI stuff will be the next step!

Re: Nanolife [2012]
People, we need your help ;_;!
We simply can't decide on whether to make item and skill slots in the textbox transparent (glass window ish) or solid. Here's an example. Above you can see solid and below you see transparent (background is a placeholder):
Which is best? We tried voting among ourselves and people we know, but it ended up in a deadlock and didn't help at all haha. So which would you pick? Also, the icon is totally not a placeholder stolen from Dragon Age.

Re: Nanolife [2012]
I actually prefer the solid-colored slot. How do I say this? Solid seems to scream "I'm empty, you dolt!" while transparent is more of "Eh... meh... whatever ._."
I don't know what I'm talking about, but my vote goes to solid.
Also, OMG textbox looks sweet.

Its more obvious that it needs to be filled with something IMO.
