Your premise is similar to a famous movie from 1982. That probably sounds bad, but I'm not accusing you of copying. In fact, I don't know what you plan to do with your setting, characters, themes, tone, and so on. I'm sure that you can create a distinct and fascinating story with your premise.

I should take some time and read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, since I know that Blade Runner was based on that 1968 novel, and since I know there are quite a few differences between the two.

You are right about it being different. The second half of the story turned into a study of religion (Mercerism). The movie didn't prepare me for that.

I'm starting fairly basic. Player needs to find out who among a group is not who he claims to be. It's been done in a million flavors (spy, demon, body snatchers, witch, transsexual, robot, The Thing, cop, etc.) So what I'm saying is, if my main character resembles Harrison Ford it is pure coincidence and has nothing to do with Blade Runner.

Thought I'd post a development update today. This project started off slowly but finally - FINALLY! - I'm picking up some speed. Though there is no way I'm going to get this finished by April 1st. Still, I intend to work on it as though I could.

This picture is of the character assets I'm currently working on. The top right faces, incomplete, are rendered like that in-game (flat color shader). The bodies are incomplete, and unpainted, so ignore the red wax ; it has nothing to do with how they will look in-game.

So nothing complete but plenty in the oven. Too much in the oven. Thanks for keeping tabs on me.

First character design done sorta. Hurrah! After roughly designing all the characters in look and proportions - they double as geometry placeholders - I will be able to start blocking out the game. Next up, Ms. Fine.

Tired all day today. Fine is done enough for this stage. I hope. On to the next one ... tomorrow.

Two more rough types done. Once I manage three or four more, I will work on the engine and story.

edit: oops, Balls has no bulge.

Well I'll be damned. A "real" (read: non-prerendered) 3D game for Nanoreno?

I know I shouldn't get my expectations that it'll be like Dear Esther.

But impressive.

Cyrus, just curious, what software are you using for the models?
