The Pit [Fighting][Intrigue][Nano2013]

There's a dark and gloomy city in the West that has an underground pit circuit, where every few nights the underside of the city gathers to engage in sport fighting.

It's no ordinary show, as the fighters who come to compete are incredibly skilled, and often come from unusual or exotic backgrounds. Not only that, The Pit is used as a way to determine the future of the city; gangs and other factions in the city clash publicly at the shows, to show each other their strength and settle matters in ways that would be far more violent otherwise.

On top of it all, the mysterious head of The Pit manages the fights, and seeks out new fighters and venues to add to the show. It's said that she loves the art of fighting for its own sake, and loves that The Pit can, in its own way, keep the peace in this dark city.

But perhaps she loves fighting just a little too much. And perhaps, as many in the city fear, The Pit is slowly becoming a little too influential..

"The Pit" is a VN/RPG hybrid that I'll be working on for NanoReno 2013. I already suspect that the project is too large for one month of work, but I'm willing to accept that and see what I can get done this March.

Rather than play as any particular character, you watch the story unfold as a whole. I'm planning a system where you can pick the next chapter or event from a list, and more chapters unlock over time. Also, you'll be able to act as the booker of The Pit, choosing the matches that will happen at each show - continuing or ending feuds and other storylines.

Fighting is done through a dice system. The system is meant to be simple to understand, and the default mode plays automatically for you, so that you can sit back and watch the fight unfold. Or, you can pick "strategic" mode, which adds a few extra rules and lets you pick a side to control.

I really like this idea. Even if you don't finish it all in one month (and I agree that it sounds very ambitious), I'll root for something playable.
