[Hard Mode] NaNoRenO in Hell 2013 [Abandoned Joke]

You know the end of March is coming...
...But for some reason due to procrastination you haven't worked your ass off yet. Who knows why, but I won't question you. The devil decided to give you a friendly warning: there is still ample time left to make a VN with all your might before he own your soul by the end of the month.

Event Rules:
It begins this Saturday, March 23 and ends on Sunday, March 31. You have nine days to code, draw, write, and perhaps make audio, from scratch (at least appearing to be original despite the fact nobody will immediately believe you). You may think some things through in despair, but don't start any actual content beforehand because it will simply disappear anyways. You will be taken to a void during the repentance event to spend your potentially last days of your life. If you survive the journey, you will be allowed to be welcomed back into the Lemma Soft community and shed as many (wo)manly tears as you wish.

Frequently Unanswered Questions (FUQ):
Q: Nine days? What's with the weird number?
A: Nine is six upside-down. Just be glad you get two days past an entire week and not only six days. I even gave you a notice three days in advance.
Q: WAIT, I have to create EVERYTHING from scratch? Are you nuts?
A: Stop complaining. The devil was kind enough to reconsider your original punishment for slacking off. And no, I'm not entirely nuts. I am an avocado (pwisaguacate), which does contain a big nut. Big.
Q: But that's not even fair; I only found out about Ren'Py just recently!
A: Take a deep breath. Read a few tutorials if you need to do so. No custom GUI is needed. Hurry up and throw together dialogue and bg's.

Code: Select all

<renpytom> The idea of nanoreno or a 48 hour contest or whatever is that you make your mistakes quick.
<renpytom> Rather than making them a 2 years into your big project.
Like he said, you made a mistake of not giving a damn about NaNoRenO, and now it's time for you to pay up.
Well hey, nine days vs two years to pull off something bad/lame-ass? I'll take my nine day death sentence. Nobody said our final projects' actual content and logic were being graded.
UPDATE 1: As you can see from the thread title, my project is now abandoned, sorry. I decided to spend the Spring Break improving myself in every ways. I've been rusty for ages and perhaps a little discontent with my life. I'm going to head back into a bit of creative writing (which I let go by the end of middle school) and do some other stuff. I may throw in a surprise CG or two.

(The elitist kid in a business suit will be discussing some ideas in this puny, lonely corner.)

Story / Writing: 0.1%
This will be a relatively fast paced visual novel with all style, no sustenance. I aim to achieve at least 15 minutes of gameplay. Why would a plot be needed?

Voice Acting: 0.1%
OH YES! With a microphone laying around, why not? Spicing up the game (i.e. awesome narrator style), and I'll be sure not to let each clip be too long so they won't be skipped.

Sprites / CGs: 0.1%
Artwork will be drawn in a certain black and white style, preferably with many awe-inspiring strokes across the screen, with bloody red accents. (Can you guess what's coming?) Sprites might not focused on as I'm not thinking of having many characters or dialogues between characters.

Coding: 0.1%
Oh, nothing fancy. I will add a bit so that the layout/theme isn't all vanilla. Automatic level greater than one!

O_O...

Survival tips:
  • Don't care about quality.
  • Minimize your cast.
  • Don't go beyond 5000 words.
  • Minimize your locations.
  • Do the bare minimum you need for the story to work first, only then may you think of fancy extras.
I'm selling some very cool last-will-paper, want some :D?

Good luck, soldier.

This is such an AWESOME idea! I was really wanting to make a short Vn but didn't want to spend a month making it; this is reminded me of that, and how liberating it is to just do something without caring about the quality of the final product! I've written down my story concept, composed a few music tracks, and sketched a character concept: consider me joined! :D.

Awww, man, no sustenance? I don't know if I want to play a VN that doesn't even have scenes with people eating. ;)

Good luck on hard mode!! :D

Ah, thanks for the early support already, everyone.

@Anna B-but I'm too poor for a fancy last will paper!

@Shoko I'll be looking forward to your masterfully thrown VN. I won't let you down on this end! This is probably one of the only times I'll be able to say "See you in hell" with a tone of friendship. :D
>friendship
>incoming Madoka style drama detected
