Title:
A Child Summoner For Moloch
Rating:
Teen - strong language and violent imagery

Format:
Kinetic Novel

Setting:
Fictional setting, Japan

Plot:
In the 1940s, a Japanese scientist developed the technology to grow trees the size of cities. Eight of these trees were bound together to form the island of Atlantis, locally known as Atoran. The technology was never used again, but the life and energy pulsating through the living island has attracted the supernatural in a big way...

Tarou Yamada is a concerned citizen who has become very concerned about the recent string of missing children in his neighborhood, as well as the inexplicable ineptitude of the police force. He takes it upon himself to look through all possible venues - including the occult, and a magician named Magus Arway.

With the help of Arway's demonic contacts and Yamada's grain-of-salt assistance, they go on the hunt for the missing children, and the kidnapper.

Characters:
Image
TAROU YAMADA
Protagonist. 25 years old. He doesn't seem overly concerned with how nondescript he is, and has a remarkably meek personality. He's extremely present-minded, which leads to some impulsive decision-making...Okay, no, really, is his name seriously Tarou Yamada?

Image
MAGUS ARWAY
Focus. 15-year-old magical prodigy, or something. He's got a pretty blasé attitude, and a knack for playing his customers. Talking about his past seems to be the only way to get him nervous. All-around kind of an asshole, but he's good at what he does.

Kanu, Kiva, Hachirou, Yasu
Arway sure does know a lot of people.

PROGRESS:
Outline: 100% done
Story (written in-script): Chapter 1/5 complete, Chapter 2 in progress
Art: Drawing out backgrounds
Music: the traditional Kevin MacLeod & TAM Music Factory stock

This isn't a detective story as much as an urban fantasy thriller. It's the pilot to a multi-game series, so I'm using NaNoRenO to put me on the right track, since I'm a constant procrastinator and this is kind of a bighuge project.

Thanks! Also, very intentional. Being tiny and adorable is his biggest selling point for customers.

And Arway is alarmingly tiny. He is the tiniest magician imaginable.

Roughly ant-sized.

The designs and art look fantastic :3. And an 'urban fantasy thriller' sounds like a great type of story C:.

Okay, I finished the first chapter! That was deceptively easy.

As for the art, I'm noticing that the soft painting style is eating up a lot of my time, so I'm going to try to simplify it a little more, for the sake of actually meeting the deadline, here. Probably something with more cel-shading.

Nice art, and your lead (or I guess, main character) looks really fun to watch. Excited about this!

Man, everyone complimenting the art makes me feel bad that I'm redrawing it...
arway_side.png
Large version of new sprite (neutral expression). Sorry it took so long to post anything, but drawing Arway's hair is genuine hell all of a sudden and it went through 2 versions before I managed to tame that damn mop of his.

AAAAAAAND I just realized I rendered his coat on the same layer as everything else and [FURIOUS YOWLING]
riho design sheet.png
Also, design sheet for Riho. I accidentally put her on the CSfM cast sheet even though she's actually the heroine of another plot entirely and left her in there as a ref since she and Arway are the same height, but I figured there's no reason to not use her instead of a generic character. Sheet is just because her initial concept was a little too basic for a cutesy idol fan.

!!! P.S. Rather than spamming this thread with little arts like that Riho up there, I started up a blog. I'll be posting stuff not directly related to the game itself on there. So basically, doodles, concepts, etc. !!!

Art took an impossible amount of time until I realized I could just use a 3D poser like MMD to get the perspective right. SITUATION RESOLVED, CGS IMMINENT
cg_arwayreveal.png
Also imminent: redrawing again, because the Arway sprite took like 2-4 hours and that's not really good time to make with so many characters. (Also, it feels kinda off-model now?)

man I am never going to get anything done like this. Perfectionism is a disease.

Updated the art in the first post, including Yamada's new sprite!

Unbelievable. I'm not entirely certain I was even trying the first time around. (The new one took my like 3 hours because PERSPECTIVE MY WORST ENEMY but.)

Chapter 2 is around a quarter, maybe halfway done? I don't know, I'm in crazy perfectionist mode so this doesn't actually say much. I'm in the stage where I can start re-using backgrounds, which is nice for future background drawing. Perspective. My worst enemy.
