Hey there. A few of us have been kicking around an idea for a short kinetic story and figured we might try to squeeze it into the second half of NaNoRenO.

Story
In a small town, mysterious disappearances have given rise to numerous rumors of unexplained
creatures prowling the streets. You are a normal high school senior with a periphery interest in the supernatural.
You wouldn't call it unhealthy or anything. It’s not like you spend your free time on ghost sighting blogs or
something like that. Even so, when a cute classmate asks for your help, you can’t help but say yes.

I love supernatural things with paranormal obsessed girls for main characters way too much!! This may or may not have something to do with these sorts main characters reminding me of myself. I love the look of the art style so far too! This is going to be fun. -stalks-

The art is cute, but a little...flaccid-looking?

The grey shading is nice for a more grim tone, but with the roughness of its application and the roughness of the lines, it just looks unfinished. Maybe add another layer of shadow, to give it a little more depth?

not to be a jerk or something but the sprites give me this deja vu-ish uncanny feeling. Is this part of that paranormal feels this game is supposed to give?

If you get an unsettling feeling, then the art is doing its job.

Not sure what to say to the"flaccid" bit, though. I know our final pallet is darker than what's shown there, but the sketchy linework was conscious for this particular project. Maybe I'm not following your line of thought.

It looks unfinished and flat; like all aspects were super rushed. The sketchy look is good for the mood, as is the shading, but they just don't...look very convincing?

I don't mean make the shadows darker, I mean add another layer of shadows so she has more depth. Like so:

I think I agree with DespairParty in that the sprites feel a bit unfinished. I love these sprites and I think the sketchy look and everything is absolutely adorable! They just need something a little more to signal that every visual choice is deliberate. I'm not sure what that "something" is, but I think the extra layer of shadow serves this purpose.
