Characters


Quinn Lanton
The main character of this tale, a woman whose curiosity helps her to find the biggest discovery of all time, only to realise she must keep it a secret.
Her personality can be defined by the player, including dialogue and action choices, this will affect the way characters react to her.


Merrik
Merrik is happy to live his life in the safety of the sea, but meeting Quinn changes things.
Now the merman finds his position as Guardian of the artifact tested as he navigates through the world of humans and their greed for what does not belong to them.


Walton Huntley
An ex-archaeologist turned treasure hunter. His only interest is the next big prize and the fortune he could get for it.

I am producing this visual novel myself, including art, backgrounds, coding, and writing! Though I will be trying to source commons music.

This sounds awesome! Does Quinn turn into a mermaid herself or does she stay a human? And I like that it has some action in it as well. Even if I am also a sucker for a good romance

I'm glad you think it sounds good Been thinking of doing it for some time, and NaNo is just the motivation I needed!

Oh good, I actually kind of like it better it that way and the idea she's like their protector from the outside.

Just finished my first ever GUI screen! Very excited and have to say kinda pleased

Posted a screenshot on the first post.

Was hoping to go for something clean and simple, but themed to the underwater and beach locations in the VN. Does it look easy to navigate?

Any advice welcome!

I'm SOOOO over mermaids all the time. SOOO over it.
So it's nice to see some hot dude with a tail. Nice job so far! Whew! Don't overtax yourself taking on everything though!

Merpeople have always been a bit of a fascination for me, so I'm glad to hear it interests others as well!

Almost all the GUI is done now (that save/load screen coding almost made me cry with frustration, but I got there!), just the start screen to go which I will leave until last.

Tomorrow it's onto making a start on the character sprites...

I'm loving everything you've done so fa. Your GUI design is too cute and I like how whimsical everything looks. Keep up the awesome work, the world needs more merfolk VNs!

Quinn totally sounds like a protagonist I can love. Underwater archeologist with super float-y hair protecting merfolk and a sacred ancient artifact from a greedy illegal bounty hunter type? Yes all the way. Now, if only she had blue hair...

Finally managed to finish the base for Merrik's sprite. I'd gotten so used to drawing him smiling in concept art it was odd to draw him in a neutral expression for the first expression



Was kind of pleased as was going for a really comic-style-kind-of-feel (hope that makes sense) for the art and think I've managed to go for what I was thinking.

Will add it to the top post as well. It's kind of nice being able to really make a start on the art! Hope everyone is doing well on their projects

Merrik sounded like a great name when I saw it, plus it has a sea-theme meaning to it!

Update: Finally done Quinn's sprite and added it to the top post. My word, it took forever (only a couple of days actually, but felt like forever, lol). I told myself I wanted to go simple, just so as I could get the job done, but then I had so much fun drawing her

This is the first time I've ever drawn sprites, I'm normally used to only doing quick sketches of characters and then giving up. Part of the reason I entered NaNo and wanted to do a VN was to expand my artistic abilities, and doing this VN has certainly forced me to try out some things I normally wouldn't (GUI design and backgrounds for definite! ).
