Story

Once upon a time in a world that was much like our own, there lay a relic of ancient Europe in the middle of a desert in the Wild Wild West.

There, kings and queens still ruled the land and in one such kingdom the sovereign lord recently died.

Two brothers now battle for the right to become the new king. One drawn by the old ways and the other swept up in the winds of change.

Abel, the elder, is set to inherit the throne. And the younger, Shiye, plans to marry their childhood friend... Sofia.

All fairy tales are suppose to have a happy ending... This is not that kind of story.

Giddy up cowboy! We're headin' out to win the West!

Calista is a strong, ambitious and needy woman who has high expectations of her sons. For reasons unknown, upon her death, she took the form of a ghost and now haunts Sofia.

When Abel rescued him from from the burned ruins of his town, James chose to stay on as his servant. He is cheerful and bright and always looking to learn and explore new things. James is a gentle boy at heart who adores animals. But, he can also be hyperactive and tends to be forgetful.

The necessary villain of this story and brother to Shiye, Abel is a conflicted individual rooted in his conservative upbringing, and yet the most modern of his family—in appearances at least.

He is a calm and calculating person who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and isn't afraid to flaunt it. He always held a vindictive jealousy when it came to his brother Shiye. When things don't go Abel's way, he is prone to explosive anger. He also has a particular fondness for cigars.

Sofia
Age - 23

The main protagonist of Sunrise, Sofia is an anemic fallen aristocratic who now lives with her father, a medical practitioner. More than anything she hates sympathy, dishonesty and feeling like she's just a pawn in royal games.

She is kind and gentle but knows when to stand up for herself. Sofia is trying to get over unrequited feelings for her childhood friend, Abel. She is a bit of a romantic when it comes to love, like Shiya, but has a more practical and pragmatic view of the world and politics at large.

The second protagonist of this story, Shiye is the younger of the two brothers and second in line for the throne. Favored by the people due to his vision of a more democratic, socially conscious state, he has always been one to live on the wild side of things.

Brave, adventurous and a little stubborn, Shiye is prone to romanticizing events and subjects. He is family-oriented and doesn't understand why his own family is so dysfunctional. Along with babying his plane, RedWing, he hopes to one day build a more prosperous future with Sofia.

I'm so happy to be able to be apart of the team. I attached a little snippet of the writing so far I finished the opening/first scene and am working on the second. I'm on spring break so hope to knock out this week and a good portion of the second. None of it is edited so excuse the mistakes. Depending on my speed, some scenes will be deleted or added on. This sounds very elaborate. I'm excited to hear more about the setting--it sounds like a mash-up of two very disparate eras, and I'm interested in seeing how the story combines them. Also that background looks great! I bet this game is gonna look amazing.

It's a fantasy story with a retro-futuristic setting in the desert. Not much (anything?) in the way of the Western genre to it, though, apart from the setting.

Also, the writing looks good so far, Hazel! Just one little thing:

Even if what I feel now for Shiye isn't romantic love, I know it's something deeper than what I had for him.

"him" is referring back to "Shiye". If the "him" means "Abel", though, then you'll need to spell it out("Even if what I feel now for Shiye isn't romantic love, I know it's something deeper than what I had for Abel."). Alternatively, you could say "Even if what I feel now for Shiye isn't romantic love, I know it's something deeper than what I had for his brother."(the "his" is referring back to "Shiye", so it's say "Shiye's brother", or Abel.)

So writing is going well and ahead of schedule! Scene 7 is giving me trouble so I'm probably going to finish the rest of next week's goals instead. After that it's basically the endings and little lead in arcs. I decided to post a dumb comic every week as well, cause I get random ideas inbetween writing.

A lot of cool ATL and BGs are done too but I'll wait for Ket to show that haha Lator gators.
